A session with my children's teacher

Even with the demands of my schedule, getting involved with the academic activities of my children is one of my top priorities, as it demonstrates commitment to my children's education and future prospects. The success of our children is a collaborative effort. I don't think leaving the whole work for the teachers alone is better, even as we foot every bill; rather, our involvement is always greatly valued by the kids and by their teacher, at least through my experience so far.

Yesterday, I visited my children's school for a parent meeting and an open day. Usually, during those sessions, parents get to have a one-on-one discussion with their kids teacher. It's an opportunity for parents to go through what has been thought to their children so far, ask questions, get reports about the child's progress, and seek ways for better academic performance.

Unfortunately, a lot of parents don't create time for this due to busy schedules and hustling to make money for the family. It's nice, although I feel the kids a academics are one aspect of the responsibilities of parents that should be given utmost attention.

I am the type of parent who doesn't wait for a scheduled open day at school before initiating a discussion with my son's teachers. This is because every day, I go through the kids books and get involved with their homework by guiding them, and this action helps me track their progress and know when things go wrong. A lot of the time, I have discovered one error or another and called the teacher's attention, and we get the issue sorted out immediately for the good of my son. If I don't get involved, I would know when some things go wrong, and this is one aspect my older son's teacher commended me on.

The turnout of parents yesterday was commendable, and the school was able to update us on important information, adjustments, future plans for the kids, and areas of concern where they need parents' collaborative effort to achieve their goal.

We had a question-and answers session, and most parents, including me, expressed themselves in areas where we wanted the school to do better. They were all welcome ideas, and the school management promised to take action.

After this session, I moved to my kids class teachers for a one-on-on discussion. I went through their books, after which I requested that the teacher update me on any challenges he sees in coaching my son.We discussed this extensively.

I was made to know by the teacher in some areas my older son was struggling, and we suggested ways to tackle it, and of course I will be playing my part at home.

I also met with my second son's teacher, and we had a great time discussing my son's progress and areas of adjustment.

Overall, it was a nice experience, and I have started implementing some suggestions on how my kids could do better for better academic performance.

How much do you get involved in your child's education? Paying bills is nice too, but getting involved seems better for any parents who can create time to manage their busy schedules.

Thanks for reading!.

Please note that all pictures are mine.
