My Adventure After Missing My Flight

avatar
Hello guys, I hope you’re having a great day. I guess you’re wondering why I’ve been away for a while now. Well it’s a long story.

If you know, and incase you didn’t know, I’m doing my national service away from home and so I had to rent a place to stay for the year. Unfortunately and fortunately for me, I got a place but for the past week I’ve been having low current and I thought it was from the Electricity Company of Ghana but it just got worse day by day and my lights started to go out for long hours. It was then I called my landlord to come handle it for me. It took him this long to work on it but that’s not the problem now.

To the conversation of the day. Have you ever missed a bus or a flight you were to travel with? Well, this is my story of how I missed my flight yesterday. Being the curious person that I am, you will always find me applying for trainings , workshops and all of that. I received a mail a month ago to attend an interview and God knows I didn’t even know what the interview was about.😂

I missed the meeting due to the time zones so I had to reschedule. I joined the meeting that faithful day and I had to ask them what the interview was about cos I had applied for so many stuff. I mean, it’s better to ask than mess up. So they reminded me and we proceeded with the interview. It was actually a great one cos the hosts were welcoming and they even made a few recommendations on some stuff I was working on.

After the interview, I was told I would get a reply as to whether I passed for the program or not in a few days time and in a few days time I received a mail that I had qualified for the training. This is how my YALI RLC cohort 46 journey started. This training is aimed at training young African leaders to give back to their societies to develop our continent.

The first phase of the training was three weeks of online studies, meetings and assessments and after that, those that successfully completed that phase will proceed to the on-site phase where we are supposed to have a face to face training session. Participants for this training come from all across west Africa. The event was to take place in Ghana so flight tickets had to be booked for all those outside Ghana and also for participants in the northern part of Ghana.

At the time of my completion of the online phase I was located in the northern part of Ghana so a ticket was booked for me and my departure date was 26th of November. I’m not from the northern part of Ghana so I had a bit of a problem locating the airport. I didn’t actually know it was far from where I stay and so @depressedfuckup had to take me to the airport since I didn’t know the place. My flight was to leave at 12pm which means checkin would end at around 11:15am. It took us an hour to get to the airport junction and an extra 10 minutes to get to the airport itself.

As we approached I saw people boarding the flight but then when I got in to checkin point I was told check-in had closed so I should wait for the next flight. Friends and family, ‘wait for the next flight’ turned to wait for the next flight again and again till the last flight left. Now I was left stranded at the airport and I had also wasted a whole day sitting there for nothing. I wasn’t the only one who missed my flight and the funny thing is, people who didn’t even book flight tickets could just walk in and get a ticket while we were still sitting there. Life now is all about connections I guess.

Long story short, we were told to come the next morning and try our luck. It wasn’t even assured we were going to be moved from the waiting list. God being so good, we met a good Samaritan also heading to Accra and he offered to drive us to Accra since he also missed his flight. We were about 5 people so we contributed some money for fuel and hired a driver to drive us to Accra. The journey wasn’t really comfortable but then we didn’t have a choice since we needed to get to Accra by Monday morning. We actually arrived very early, as at 7:00am we were in Accra and I successfully made it to the venue for the program.

I am optimistic that this program will be an educative and a life changing one. I will make sure to update you through every step so stay tuned.

I hope you enjoyed reading, thank you.

Your village people worked really hard against this, so you need to work extra hard to shame them.😂

Now that you’re finally there, I can do the “I told you so”s😂. When they’re telling you next time, you’ll listen.

As always, I know you’ll shine there. I want to say give your best, but these guys can’t take your best, so I’ll simply say do well.

Oh yeah and don’t forget to have fun. A lot of it.

Sorry about all the inconveniences dear and at least you had that Hamza man to help you out, because it would have been more terrible if you had no one to show you some solidarity.

I hope all you endeavours are crowned with success dear. All the best.🤗

Hmmm that's serious that you might you flight and the following day isn't still certain.

Glad you got an alternative means though.

If your light is bad in Ghana, you know you can always come and complete your national service here in Nigeria where we've stable electricity with full current.🤣

I’m in Accra now so I’m not bothered about the flight.😂

Since when did Nigeria have stable electricity. We don’t have electricity problems in Ghana. I think it was an internal problem.

This is the second time I’m hearing someone miss a flight at this Tamale airport. It almost happened to me at the wa airport. I got there and the man just put a barrier saying checking in time was up. He moved away to do something and a moved the barrier and joined the queue. I was so happy 😂😂😂😂

Anyway, you people should learn plenty things and save us in this country

Please share the fun with us. Looking forward to it.
