Weekend-Engagement topics - WEEK 201: There must be a balance between being honest and being true to oneself.

In today's society, honesty and fidelity to oneself are two fundamental values that often conflict in various situations. Honesty refers to the quality of telling the truth and acting in a way that is congruent with what one thinks or feels. On the other hand, being true to oneself implies maintaining consistency between our beliefs, values and actions, even if this means facing challenges or going against what the majority thinks. Both values are important and have a significant impact on our life and relationships with others.

Honesty is an essential virtue for maintaining harmony and justice in society, and being true to oneself is essential for achieving individuation and personal fulfillment.

A positive perspective of honesty is the trust and credibility that comes from being truthful and transparent in our relationships with others. Honesty also promotes self-acceptance and self-knowledge, as it forces us to confront our inner truths and live accordingly. On the other hand, fidelity to oneself helps us to maintain consistency and integrity in our actions, avoiding hypocrisy and self-deception.

But sometimes, honesty can have negative consequences, especially if it involves revealing sensitive or painful information that may hurt others. In these cases, it can be difficult to balance the need to be honest with empathy and compassion for others.

Being honest often resulted in social rejection, loss of job opportunities or isolation. I have been asked to keep quiet about the truth to avoid conflict or to maintain a positive image in the eyes of others. But, in spite of this, honesty remains a fundamental value that makes the difference between my life and that of others.

On the other hand, being true to oneself can lead to situations of conflict and social isolation if our beliefs or values go against what the majority accepts.

In my daily life, I fight for my rights, stand up for my values and stand firm in my beliefs despite difficulties, but being true to oneself is not always easy or without challenges. At times, I have found myself in situations where I am asked to sacrifice my principles or give up my values for the sake of others. In those moments, I am true to myself and do not give in to external pressure, even if it means facing criticism or discomfort.

I really like Rock, and pop references. This has brought me problems and a certain level of rejection on some occasions, but that has not stopped me from being true to myself.

Both honesty and being true to oneself are important values that contribute to my personal development and strengthen my relationships with others. In certain situations, it can be difficult to maintain a balance between these two values, but it is essential to reflect on which one is more valuable to me in each context.

Ultimately, the key is to find the harmony between being honest with others and being true to ourselves, in order to live an authentic and fulfilling life. Both are relevant values in our society, however, they can sometimes conflict, especially in situations where our beliefs or values go against what is established or accepted by the majority. In these cases, it is important to reflect on which of these values is more valuable to us and how we can find a balance between being honest with others and being true to ourselves.
