My Fridge Magnet Collection

Hello Hive Collectors!

I saw the latest topic of the month hot collections on a cold surface and I knew I had to make a post.

I have been a keen fridge magnet collector for a number of years even BK (before kids) and would often try to pick up a nice magnet from any of my travels. They are like collecting pins from Pinmapple of places you have been and having a little reminder in the kitchen. They started of with any old magnet, even quite basic, but then I started getting more fussy that I often didn't buy a magnet... which also isn't good.

Sadly, many of my older magnets have been damaged, lost or fallen to the wayside and I didn't add to many with COVID and not traveling and then I became abit disillusioned with my magnets and got quite fussy and wanted to make sure I got just really nice ones.

However, recently I have been getting back in the mood and am looking for nice ones to pick up again.

Probably my oldest surviving magnet is from Crete, which is a lovely island in Greece. I really love olive oil and at one time even often took herbal olive leaf extract quite often. I really love the style of this one and it has some special treasured memories from a great holiday in Crete. I have been there actually many times on holiday and can heartily recommend it.

Next is one that my wife brought back from her business trip to Porto. I have never been to Portugal, but I like this colorful magnet and think it was a good choice.

Here we have a colorful starfish and chicken. These are another couple that my wife picked up. I really like them again because they are quite colorful and give some character to the fridge.

Next up is a magnet from Wroclaw that I picked up when I was working there for a while. Its not such an amazing one, but I was there so often that I wanted to have a magnet to remind me of the place, especially the central square where I hung out quite a lot in the evenings. If you get a chance to go, I do recommend it and for collecting enthusiasts, you might want to see if you manage to collect a photo of all of the tiny little dwarves spread around the town.

Here I have another very nice and shiny magnet of the Budapest parliament building overlooking the Danube river. I have been to Budapest a few times, for leisure and business. I really liked the shininess of this one and solid feel. The awe of the parliament building and view of Budapest you can see here is pretty awesome and it is great to have this nice memory of it.

Although we went to Antalya last year I think it was, I didn't grab a magnet as I didn't see something I liked and didn't really go into many shops. Perhaps I could have picked something up from the airport, but it was very masky. Anyhow, friends of ours were in Turkey near Antalya actually and brought us back a magnet and we have it nicely on the fridge. This one is quite old too and has survived moves across 3 countries and a few fridges.

Our most recent magnet was brought back by my daughter for me from her recent trip to Disneyland and takes it's place on the fridge. Often we hang up things to do with the kids activities or achievements, so having a nice magnet with some meaning is great to have and remind you of certain places.

Seeing others magnet collections has given me some new inspiration to continue my quest to add some new magnets to replace the lost ones and have some more treasured memories in the future.

What magnets do you have?

Thanks for reading.

An international and varied collection, I love the one in Portugal and the one in Antalya, both have very beautiful colours and details. But the one that has caught me is the one from Disneyland for what it means and that non-subliminal message, haha. 🤗

Thanks, I do like the nice and colorful ones. These are what I would go for normally. The Disney one is a very nice sentimental one. 😊

That's a good idea for the post. My fridge is full of stickers, too :)

many of my older magnets have been damaged

They behaved in the same way as some of my ones. They became too heavy so they fell 😅

Do you sometimes accidentally pick the olive oil magnet instead of the real olive oil bottle? 😁

Yes, sometimes we have a lot of reminders on the fridge! Haha We did superglue some of them back together after falling though, we even have a hot glue gun for those tough breakages.

I didn't mix up the olive oil bottles yet, but maybe I didn't get drunk enough so far. Lol.

Wow bro your magnet collection looks awesome. I like how each magnet holds a special memory. The Crete one, with its connection to olive oil, stands out for me. Your story inspires me to start my own collectiom man for real

I love the analogy you make of the magnets on the fridge and the pins in Pinmapple. From your collection, I really like the Crete and Porto ones but without a doubt, my fav is the Super Dad one :)

I'm not a stickler for buying magnets on every trip but I do have some and I think they are a good souvenir of places we've visited.

Magnets tend to get damaged, I had a lot of them too but only 5 survived and only one of them is old 😂

My favorite: the rooster, I couldn't help it, I love birds 🦉❤️

Yeah they can get easily damaged, especially if they have something fancy on them. The rooster is pretty cool. 😊

Hello, you have a beautiful collection. In this photo I show you the ones we have at home. Most of them are mom's, some made by my younger sister, others given away, others incomplete. The large magnet along with other small ones and the fish are mine.

That is a really cool collection. I love the house and angel ones! My mother collects Cherubs.

Thank you! Almost all of them have been given as gifts. My sister made some very beautiful ones to sell, but many have been damaged because she changed from wood to MDF.

BK? 😆😆😆 does an AK also exist? 🙃

I suppose I have plenty of those, but not sure where. The one who initiated this round of collections is trying in her style to get me to create a post with my fridge thingies. Not sure if I still have them. I used to have them, but I think I gave them to someone else. But, perhaps once I dreamed this. Donno.

As you, I used to buy them when visiting some place for the first time. After 40 or 50, I stopped. I switched to ties, which I never wore anymore (but back then when I travelled a lot, I did), but that aside. Unlike, you I was kinda picky, but I bought them at the airport on my way out, even when not nice, I would pick the one I disliked the least; Usually these rubbery thingies.

Haha yeah there could be an AK, don't know if I will be too old then for traveling. 😅

When traveling I was really thinking what momento to buy for some nice memories and fridge magnets seemed the obvious choice. I think you should do your post, I bet you have a few really cool ones to share.

With your ties, you could use them for Weiberfastnacht and use them up that way! 😅

Weiberfastnacht: hahaha good idea! Some are perfect for such. Some are too costly and beautiful though.
Fridge thingies: Soon will need to go through my locker/storage room anyways, will look for them.
AK: never to old for travelling 🎶🙃

Thanks, yeah it is nice to look back and remember you travelled somewhere. I hope to add a few more, as some have been lost due to accidents and moving.

The Super Dad one is so sweet, you must be really proud of that. I like the olive oil one, objects that represent a place are always very memorable

I have a magnet of a bottle of spirit from Taiwan. It's a famous product from the country but I don't drink it for obvious reasons (58 degrees!!)

Thanks, yeah I really like that one, it was very thoughtful because I would have liked to travel with them if I could have. I love your bottle magnet, it looks really like the original too!! Too strong for me to drink also! 😅
