Glastonbury 2024 - Staying (a)Woke!

(edited)

Hello Hive Music Gang!

Welcome to another #threetunetuesday created originally by @ablaze. This week I go over the 3 tune limit as we have a Glastonbury special.

It is Glastonbury again and this year it has been some good weather for a change. I have been spending the last days listening to as many of the acts as possible. At times it was a struggle to find something to listen to unless you were a fan of Chris Martin, but overall there was some wheat to separate from the chaff.

It was hard to stay awake to try and catch some of the late night performances live, but I did my best and slept on the couch a couple of nights.

One of the performances that I really liked was from Bombay Bicycle Club with Damon Albarn. He did sort of ruin it with his you must vote preach midway through and it sort of symbolises what Glastonbury has become. At times it was a serious cringefest, but being filmed by the BBC, it probably is to be expected though.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Heaven (feat. Damon Albarn)

This next tune is a classic from the awesome Gossip who gave a great performance. There was not Banksy refugee life boat floating in the crowd here, just people enjoying some good music.

The woman in the band were quite provocatively dressed though with almost nothing on. I am not sure this was watched by the same crowd who enjoyed the return of Avril Lavigne and her teenage angst music.

Avril looks all grown up now but was in full costume for her fans to bring back those teenage memories. Somehow it felt all wrong though, with Avril although giving a good performance, it was at the sametime pretty cringey.

Gossip - Standing In The Way of Control

The next tune is one of my favourites performed this year. I really like the tune and it seemed to go down well with the crowd. This year, there was a lot of pop music and artists which was pretty rubbish and not what you would expect from the Glastonbury traditionalists.

I was watching some of the Coldplay and then doom scrolling a little on Insta when I saw a bloke from Dublin was also watching and couldn't stand more than 10 seconds of Chris Martin as he is too woke and cringe. He had had a few beers and wasn't too kind to Chris. Admittedly, I couldn't take too much of Chris either and searched for something else.

Two Door Cinema Club - What You Know

The next tune is from Nothing But Thieves which is another tune that I really enjoyed and didn't hear before. I think they really gave a great performance and the crowd seemed to enjoy it. It is a shame the song was too short! Longer!!

Nothing But Thieves - Welcome To The DCC

There was some good dance music served and two of my stand out ones were by Orbital who had some classic tunes that went down well. I was not sure what to make when Mel C from the Spice Girls came on stage for this spicy tune though.

I thought the Spice Girls were confined to the dustbin of history. People seemed to like seeing her jumping around though.

Orbital - Belfast

Featured in a previous #ttt post, Justice were also at Glasto representing and I loved this mix they gave. I would love to go and see these guys live if I could stay out late without getting too tired.

Perhaps all this gig business is just for young people or I need to start drinking lots of coffee and red bull.

Justice - Neverender

Tim Skinner was back this year and I am not sure the crowd was too impressed with his performance. With his songs, you could question if he was singing here or just talking compared to other acts. Although that is his style.

He was also doing some weird flag waving thing with the crowd as you can see in the video. Very exciting stuff.. not! It is not quite up to the standard of Keith Flint at Rock am Ring crowd surfing. Keith really knew how to get the crowd riled up and The Prodigy are much better to if I am honest!

The Streets - Blinded By The Lights

The final tune for today is a fun tune with Paul Heaton supported by Norman Cook. It was just a great tune to listen to and I haven't heard it for a while, so was quite good on the ears.

Paul Heaton may seem familiar as he was the leadsinger of the Housemartins back in the day and has a few good hits under his belt. Although nothing is coming up in my head off the bat.. but I'm sure he does..

Paul Heaton - Happy Hour (feat. Norman Cook)

That wraps up my #ttt for this week. Do you have a favorite song from Glastonbury this year?

For those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday.... to quote @ablaze :

The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize.

Be sure to head over and give @ablaze some support as without his great work, we wouldn't have a #ttt.

I was watching Glastonbury on and off on TV over the weekend, it's a great
way to find new stuff and rekindle with old songs, always a nice surprise when they come up

It was really nice catching some things in the late evening. It looked pretty packed there and dry for once. I love to try and see any new tunes or hear some classics from back in the day. I am glad the lineup was different from last year, it was very refreshing, although lots of pop!

Glad you enjoyed it, yes woke and Glastonbury and the BBC , I have stopped watching stuff from there.

It is hard to stomach the BBC these days, even worse to listen to Gary Lineker with the football.

Blinded by lights has an enthusiastic tone 😅. I enjoyed listening to it. Thanks for sharing

I saw some of it on the telly over the weekend and rather enjoyed LCD Soundsystem but that was about it. I didn’t see Orbital or half the stuff you watched though.

They were quite good to watch. There was more Glasto on BBC3 too,.but otherwise reruns on YouTube.

I think Nothing But Thieves is the only band I have heard of in that group! :) It sounds like it was a pretty epic festival though!

It looked totally packed and had many rave reviews. I think there was plenty of average music there though.

It's been going on for a long time hasn't it?

Opened my eyes (or rather ears) to a collection of music I've never heard before.

This is the current music in the UK!

I couldn't take too much of Chris

If they could throw him off a plane or something and get a new vocalist, I might like Coldplay. The music is decent, especially 'Clocks'.

I'm the same, just couldn't get into Coldplay with Chris in charge. Does he get a parachute when thrown from the plane or an anvil?
