Traveling With Love #19 - The City of Emperors

avatar

Hello! I definitely will miss writing about Brazil from now on, but it is just going to motivate me even harder to travel to those regions again! It is now time to move on and tell you more about my other travels - we will be in Europe for a while now.

The first non-Brazil travel post in a few weeks is going to be about Vienna - the city of emperors, where luxury meets vanity. Beautiful palaces, magnificent buildings, everything that is there speaks to me - as I love luxury myself! We have only been there as a day trip, so this is obviously not a comprehensive overview or anything like that; treat it as a quick and fun personal experience. Without further ado, let's dive into our day in Vienna.

Schönbrunn Palace

Us in front of the Schönbrunn Palace.

Our first destination in the morning was the Schönbrunn Palace. We knew that it would get crowded quite fast, so to skip the lines going early sounded like the absolute best idea. It indeed was, as we got in easily and could enjoy all the gardens as much as we wanted to. We were there at the end of April, so one of the gardens was pretty disappointing. That is because most of the nature there was simply not in bloom just yet. That said, overall the palace was stunning and strolling around the gardens was extremely pleasurable.

We went there with our friends but - for privacy reasons - I will only put pictures of me and my girlfriend here. The first part of the gardens was this "tunnel" that felt extremely romantic - especially that we were just with the 4 of us in there. It was also great for taking some pictures and we managed to take some that I definitely like. I was also wearing all-black that day, so I look surprisingly buff, as opposed to the usual fat - great dressing tip!

Totally natural walking.

Here it supposedly looks like we're making a heart.. Kinda.

There are tons of beautiful and picturesque parts of the complex, including multiple fountains, a stunning gloriette, tons of greenery and even some Roman ruins. I personally find it hard to choose my favourites, so here's a few pictures for you to enjoy - a little mix of everything if you will:

Both of them from afar.

I cannot really see a reason not to recommend going to the palace. It is really close to the city, there are tons of beautiful things to see for everyone - there is history, there is greenery, as well as absolutely stunning architecture.

The City

After coming back from the palace, we had a fairly limited time in actual Vienna. The first thing we did was go on a free walking tour. These are probably our favourite ways to learn general information, as well as some insider info about European cities - they are "free", but also tip-based, so you are expected to leave a tip at the end; they are pretty much always worth leaving a big tip, as the guides tend to be passionate about their jobs (or just want to make a good wage out of it).

Anyway, we learnt a lot on the tour, so I suggest if you're ever to a European city, especially one of historical significance, you go on one! I won't show you too much of Vienna in this post, sadly, as due to lack of time (and perhaps phone battery), we ended up only using it to photograph some of the landmarks, rather than ourselves.

It really is a palace, on top of a palace, on top of luxury, on top of vanity, on top of history. It is a stunning place that I recommend visiting for way longer than we did - there's just so much to explore! I definitely want to come back there myself; I have already been quietly planning a more expensive trip around countries such as Austria and Switzerland - which really is just a ruse to be able to finally visit Liechtenstein! I love tiny micro-states!
