One Wrong Day In Joshua's Life

Joshua and Kate are a newly Wedded couple who loved themselves to the brim, they were residents of port harcourt. The fact that they grew up together since childhood made the bond between them stronger . Joshua was a fantastic husband to his wife, and Kate an amazing woman, everyone in the family loves her due to her commitment and obedience. They didn't fail to reassure one another of their undying love whenever Kate says to her husband "solemnly you are the best thing that has ever happened to me", Joshua will smile and give her a warm hug, "I love you darling" was his reply.

This fateful day, Joshua was drunk. Bittered from the issues that transpired between him and a colleague in the office. Even in his staggered state, wanting not to disappoint Kate, he managed to drive her to the supermarket to stock the house with food stuffs, along the way, he became dizzy and ran his car into a coming truck. His effort to control the car to safety was late. A few minutes later, an ambulance drove to the accident scene and rushed them both to the hospital.

They were both unconscious when they were rushed to the hospital, Kate was taken to the emergency ward, but unfortunately she didn't make it despite the effort of the doctors. It was a disheartening moment for both families, as they mourn Kate, while praying for Joshua to respond to treatment.

It took weeks for Joshua to regain his consciousness. The first thing he altered when he gained consciousness was his wife's name Kate, his mother fighting back her tears replied calmly "she's fine just have a little rest", then he became mute for some while and slept off. Even though she was glad her son had regained consciousness, she wondered how she was going to break out the news of his wife's demise in a way that wouldn't hit him hard.

Joshua stayed a week in the hospital without knowing his wife had passed on, whenever he asked about Kate the response from his mother was "she's fine, she's under the doctor's custody". Joshua's mother kept contemplating on how to break the news to her son that Kate is no more, she was afraid of the worse, she cannot predict what might happen after breaking the horrible news to him.

When he was discharged, she finally broke the news to Joshua. The shock of the sudden news made him dumb for a few hours , he was destabilized, forgiving himself was the last thing he could imagine. He blamed himself for everything that happened on that day. If he wasn't mad at his colleagues' actions, he may not have gotten himself drunk, and if he wasn't drunk, he may have avoided the accident. Recalling every event hurt him the more, he wondered why life had chosen him instead of his wife.

After the burial, Joshua was heartbroken for months, he remained indoors and felt there was nothing good about living, it was better if he had joined his wife on the other side. This bothered his mother who couldn't bear to watch her son suffer all this pain. It would be a misery if he lived the rest of his life in pain, so she visited him to see how he's copping, unfortunately there was no improvement. He rarely eats or drinks. He said to his mother there's nothing in this life he enjoys without Kate.

"I can't smile, my last smile has been stolen, I can't go out, it'll only remind me of my negligence, let me just remain indoors" have said.

The mother sniffed, she knows time heals, even though she fears it may take longer hours.

"My son, you know, we only live once, we can't allow our past to hold our future. Joshua, you just have to put the past behind and deal with the future. Please be happy again, I know Kate will want that for you too. this is not the end of life" she encouraged him.

Few days later Joshua picked courage after seeing a photo of a moment they shared with Kate, she had specifically told him on that day to live life to its best in whatever circumstances because that's what she'll always desire from him. He went out with his friends and gradually his life came back to normal, then he found this pretty damsel Carolina who became his joy forever. After some misfortune Joshua was able to come back on his feet, pick up from where he stopped and smile again, but he never forgot the very incident that claimed Kate's life.
