HOW I SPENT MY LAST 500 NAIRA

So last week I was on a low, dead broke to the point that I did not have the least 100 naira with me. And just like any other broke ass, I got to my hungry point, and that was when I decided to withdraw some money from my wallet. Thankfully I didn't make the mistake I made the week before of transferring HBD instead of hive to binance. I was still mourning my loss, and decided to pay part of the loan I'm to pay for the month as well as get data for my phone and use the remaining money to buy the little foodstuffs it can get.

I had my game plan set, and I was ready to stick with it, until I made the withdrawal, paid part of the debt I planned, and then bought data. By the time I was done with all these, I went to the market, and everything I planned on getting had gone up in price. I was in pain because there was absolutely nothing I could do and all the foodstuffs I intended to buy were very essential, including the filling of my gas. I wanted to get garri, beans, and palm oil, then buy some soup ingredients so I could prepare soup that day, manage it for 2 days, and live on the remaining foodstuffs for the week until I got enough money to restock my house.

It was really hard to decide what to let go because I was really craving to eat swallow as I hadn't eaten it in over a week with my body already feeling funky about it. So I decided to let the beans go which meant if the soup gets finished I will sip garri for the remaining part of the week. I had accepted my fate, went on to get the soup ingredients, and was left with 500 naira which I told myself I was going to spend judiciously. In fact, I said I wouldn't touch it unless it was for an emergency. The two days passed, and the soup finished earlier than expected, and as I had a friend who joined me in eating twice I needed to serve for two.

I started sipping garri for the next two days (which wasn't funny by the way) and then I decided I wanted to eat something solid because I had started feeling funky again. I had the intention of buying beans in cups, so I would manage it for a day and a half, but I had a lot of engagements that day and rain decided to fall throughout leaving me very hungry, away from home and I could only get something at the spot to eat. I looked at the 500 naira and began to contemplate whether or not I should buy the appetizing Boli (roasted plantain, and roasted potatoes with pepper sauce).

After a lot of contemplation, and the rain was looking like it wasn't ready to stop anytime soon, I began to imagine the time it would take me to select the beans, cook, and eat with the other engagements I had for the day. I gave up and bought the Boli close by as the hunger I was feeling was already hitting my ulcer spot. When I asked for the price of the Boli, the woman said one plaintain was 300 naira, and the potatoes were 50 naira each. Having only 500 naira, I knew I wouldn't be satisfied so I left for a woman selling rice and pepper soup, but after seeing the 300 naira rice she sold for the guy before me, I went back to the Boli woman.

I got one plantain and four potatoes, even as I was buying it I wasn't happy but I knew I had to eat at that point for my health's sake. And just like I thought, I finished the food within three minutes and it was as though I hadn't eaten. The only difference was that the hunger was no longer hitting my hunger spot, so I took that as consolation and continued with my garri which finished the next day because It was the only thing I had left.

For one to eat bole and get filled, you have to budget some good amount. The pieces of yam get smaller while the prices go higher.
Sorry about that day but really, you had to eat. It wasn't an exactly bad buy.

Hunger can make one do odd things o... sorry about your experience. The naija inflation is hitting hard now that one gets confused when going to the market.
