Record of Youth | Kdrama Review.

Whenever I watch a TV show or read a piece of literature, I'm not usually so inclined on focusing on the protagonist or a series of protagonists. I prefer when the story has various complexities and give sufficient backstory about minor characters. This usually gives a huge dynamic to the storyline.

This particular Kdrama, Record of Youth, is one of such shows that got me captivated and also made me curious to dig into the backstory of so many characters. The more I got to understand why each character (both major and minor character) acts the way he or she acts, the easier it made it to be fascinated by their dynamics.

By the end of the day, I can't help but notice that this Kdrama tells a wholesome story about the struggle of people in their youthful age and the series of things they have to go through in their attempt to contend with life and make a name for themselves in their chosen profession.

The storyline is different from the usually Crime and Action kinda stories I usually add to my watchlist, but I have no regrets after watching this. The production crew did a really good job and each of the characters did an amazing job of portraying their roles and relaying the emotions unique to their characters.

As you binge-watch this Kdrama, it will allow you to see the world from the perspective of young lads who are pursuing their dream in the entertainment industry. Their family background and how they grew up affected how they dealt with challenges in their youthful age. I don't think that's a surprise though. It's fairly understandable.

This qualifies as a family Drama. It's the kinda drama you can sit down with your family and watch without feeling awkward about any erotic stuff. If anything, I can guarantee that there will surely be lessons to learn from this Kdrama. Lessons that can be applied in relationships between families. Young lads can also learn some things about being relentless in the pursuit of success.

I've read some comments about the family scenes being boring, but I don't buy into that narrative. For the record, the most interesting dynamics in the show has so much to do with each of the families. Lemme quickly give you a caption that best explains what to expect from each of the families;

  • Hye-Jun's Family = Poor

  • Jeong-Ha's Family = Divorced parents.

  • Hae-Hyo's Family = Rich and Pampery.

  • Jin-U's Family = An average family.

This Kdrama paints a good picture of what life is like for young lads from these family backgrounds and the struggle they have to contend with in their attempt to walk on a path that will lead to a dazzling future.

I have a high rating for this show. Check it out.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma

I used to think that most Korean drama is just all about love and power tussle but this is quite exemplary, making me feel like giving Korean drama a new look.

Well done

This is really captivating and it digs deep into what is obtainable in reality. Everyone have to fight to make it in life and we have to deal with a great deal of competition. Our family background can make things easier or worse, but a whole lot of our source depends on us.

Based on the families that you discussed here, it just explains that no family is perfect and no human is born to live happily. Life is just like that, you have to find your purpose while surviving your own battles.

Yeah. Yoh are on point. We all have our own battle to fight. We can't depend solely on our family.

The story in the show is a reality check for everyone. Hehe

Exactly, At the end, you are the primary decision-maker in your life. But family is the best foundation, if you have a good family and they still enrich you with good values, of course you will still live a happy life. It's just that, life is not perfect, some things will not go perfectly, and you just have to accept that and keep moving forward.

Happy Valentines Day Kene!

Nice. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this. The Kdrama got me thinking hard about the situation those young lads had to deal with regardless of their family. None of them had it very easy. Even the ones from rich family ended up being pushed around to live the life carved out by their parents instead of living their own life. Hehe.

Happy Valentine's Day to you. Have so much fun over there and enjoy this season of love. Hehe

Awww, because of this, I remember the kdrama I also watching every night, the title is Juvenile Justice, maybe you know that too. That made me think about those youngsters who turned themselves into another path. 😥

Haha, no date today, how about you?

Amazing stuff. Juvenile Justice is another interesting Kdrama that gives a reality check. It brings us into the world of these youngsters and the harsh things they endure in the society. After watching a show like that, you will easily become empathetic towards juveniles especially those raised in a broken home.

About today, I will be doing it alone. Haha. My lady is not in town. Hehe.

Hehe... The environment always okays a big part in how kids will turn out. This is why parents need to be sure they train their kids in a decent environment. Hehe.

Yeppyyy... I have a lady in my life. We are both occupied with work, but we will get to be together next week. Hehe. That would be a good time for a nice date

This is definitely a k-drama to look forward to. I thought I'd watched all possible K-dramas but it's nice to add another one to the list. The series sounds intriguing and I can't wait to watch it. Thanks for the review.🌷

I thought I'd watched all possible K-dramas...

Haha... This is actually interesting. I'm a big fan of Kdramas. Infact, 97% of whatever tvshow I watch each year are Kdramas. My watchlist at the moment is insane and I have some Kdramas in the list which are yet to be released. Hehe.

Record of Youth is an interesting one too. You will have fun watching it.

This is wonderful. I hardly see guys that are avid fans of K-dramas. So this is all rather refreshing. Many people don't understand that in terms of capturing storylines, k-dramas are top tier.

Would you like to list some of the K-dramas on your watchlist?🙃

Hahah... I started watching Kdrama in 2010. A Man Called God was the very first Kdrama I watched. Ever since then till date, more than 95% of any tvshow I've seen has to be Kdrama. For the record, I prefer Tvshows to movies. Hehe. So, all these 2 hours or 3 hourse movies do not satisfy my tatse.

I actually prefer Kdrama to any other thing out there. I love the depth they give their stories. It gives you enough backstory to also appreciate the brilliance of minor characters and it gives each character multiple opportunity to show what they are capable of and hopefully land lead roles in the future. Hehe.

This is my watchlist at the moment;

One Dollar Lawyer
Blind
May it please the Court
Bargain
Little Women
Somebody
Curtain Call
The Fabulous (Nov Netflix)
Revenge of others
Weak hero class 1
Reborn Rich
Bad Prosecutor
The first responders.
Island 1&2
Behind every star
Run Into You
Crash Course in Romance
Payback: Money and Power
The Glory
The Glory 2
Kokdu: Season of Deity
Taxi Driver 2
Casino
Trolley
Big Bet
Can we be strangers
Red Balloon
Bait
Love to hate you
The heavenly idol
Strangers Again
Pandora: Beneath the Paradise
Kill Boksoon

Some of these Kdramas are yet to start airing. Haha. I usually update the list as often as possible. What I'm watching now is If You Wish Upon Me so it's not in the list. Haha.

I'm not usually a big fan on Kdramas that are centred around love. So, most of what I have on my watchlist will always have a touch of action, crime, business and co. Stuff that are more realistic than dramatic. Hehe

I plan to open a YouTube channel, exclusively for Kdramas. I will do that as soon as I raise money for Camera and other equipments.

I saw this drama and I was like "Korean has this kind of drama too?" lol... It was a rare watch for me and I enjoyed every bit of it.

More like I learnt so much from it, I mean haha.

And did you do an off drama research on the lead guy? The drama seem to be about how he actually grew up in real life... He hasn't been rich and his family background story isn't so sweet like some had but was both emotional and inspirational just like in this drama.

I like these kind of drama, full of lessons while you get entertained 🙂

The Drama is a complete package. Most of the Kdramas in my watchlist are the ones released in 2022, 2023 and upcoming Kdramas. But when I saw this one (despite being a 2020 Kdrama), I found the plot synopsis to be very interesting and captivating.

I didn't sleep on it. I checked it out immediately and everything about the show was spot-on.

About the lead character, It's not a surprise that he portrayed the role so diligently. He's a perfect cast for the story and he diligently carried the viewers into the life and struggles that can be experienced by young folks when they choose to earn success through hardwork.

The story is a breath of fresh air. Hehe.

I would have asked for some on your 2022 list but I'm yet to go half of the ones I have already 😅

He was a perfect cast, no doubt about that... I remember shedding tears at a scene he did some "Look real" acting on haha
