πŸͺ€ Tom & Jerry, Pad Thai, Iron Gates & Khmer Letters 🍜

My wife got a little nostalgic when she saw a Tom & Jerry phone case, and since it happened to be the only thick rubber case in the shop, we snagged it.

Pad Thmer For Lunch 🍜

ccc.png

Β  Β  Β Usually when I show you all food it's usually something I made or am in the process of making, but on this day my wife was the lunch chef. I was feeling hungry so I went outside to see if the wife was cooking or if I would need to get my hands dirty, and what I found was a pleasant surprise. My wife was preparing the Khmer version of Pad Thai, or "Pad Thmer" as I like to call it.

Β  Β  Β Everybody other than myself is sick this week, so I've been doing my best to cook and take care of everyone, but on this day I had to step back and focus on work a little because running out of money isn't a popular trend. Despite my wife not feeling well, I am glad she was able to prepare a meal despite making a few casual threats with the chef's knife.

Gate Under Construction 🚧

Β  Β  Β Our house is still on pause by the government, but our in-laws need employment, so we had them return and finish the gate project, not a priority, but at least it's something we kind of need to complete and they definitely need some income. We are beginning to rethink our bungalow micro-resort idea because of the government problems and because many rich powerful people are getting into this business nearby, so it could be potentially dangerous. I am thinking of opening a school instead, both because it would be a less competitive business and also help to prevent future problems because teachers are super respected here.

Cambodian-ing Ain't Easy πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Β  Β  Β Monkey-B, aka @sakana, has been consistently frustrated by her homework this week, and mostly the Khmer language stuff. Even though she's fully Cambodian and a non-native English speaker, because she's been with me since around the age of 2, she has learned English as a native speaker might, and it's easy to say it's her comfort language, so Khmer will always be a struggle for her, I can certainly sympathize because many moons ago I tried to learn how to read and write Khmer. Let's just say I'm now fluent in Khmer, almost with a native speaker accent, and yet nearly 100% illiterate.

Β  Β  Β It is a beautiful language in written form, but countless minutes are wasted in class transcribing information from a whiteboard or textbook, unlike some other countries in SE Asia that adapted to a Latin-based letter system, places like Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, etc. I've read some studies online that have found it actually does require these countries less time to cover a similar curriculum, all due to a faster handwritten alphabet. That's all I got for now folks, gearing up for a border run to the Thai side of Phsar Prum because the longterm visa is now no longer an option for me. I'll have to drive 14 hours or so in the tuk-tuk to visit Thailand for 5 minutes and return, gotta love bureaucracy.

Monkey B will really do here best for her studies and I know she can do it. Eating very nutritious foods just like that is very good and important to our body my friend. 😊

I hope we keep her fed well enough to learn such a complex writing system πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

I hope everyone will get better soon my friend. It is always hard when any member of the family becomes sick, and you have been very good to take care of them. sending some !LUV to all of you

I think the gate while it is not a priority, will be able to put the uninvited crapper away πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… I hope you get my joke. !LOLZ

Anyway, some of those letters in the Khmer writings are similar to my Balinese writings, but unfortunately, I am not able to write or read them as fluently as I do in Latin letters.

Yes, you remember the intruding poopers who use our bathroom without asking πŸ˜†

The fence gate will make a huge difference in keeping litter and strangers out, and also give us a stronger sense of security at night. I Once upon a time Cambodia was a Javanese kingdom, and there are many similarities between both cultures and languages, Balinese too.

Sakana must have been really frustrated with that homework. Anyway, I got sick in the past few days as well. Maybe cold and flu is on trending right now. It was also a nice tom & jerry phone case. I like the thickness, too!

Yes, seems all the kids at the public school are sick now, guess it was eventually going to strike our house. I still chuckle every time I see the backside of my wife's phone πŸ˜†

the Khmer language looks very difficult to read, but I like the writing style, the lunch you shared also looks very delicious, I really want to try it

It is beautiful but difficult, and that is why I gave up on studying it many years ago, I can only speak it well.

Your family is so happy, I'm happy to hear that... The cellphone case with the picture of Tom & Jerry is very cute... Your wife's cooking is also very delicious, of course.

Thanks for stopping by, it sure is nice to have two chefs in our house so that when either of us is tired the other can cook.
