🥁 "Spirit Of Vincennes Rendezvous" 2023 ⛺ Part 2

In this Part 2 about the the "Spirit Of Vincennes Rendezvous," I captured some battlefield re-enactment shots and explored more vendor booths.

Battlefield Action 💣

In my previous post I mentioned the Rendezvous festival is centered around a historic battle where American George Rogers Clark and his amigos defeated British Henry Hamilton and his homies. During this two-day festival there are three battle re-enactments each day, so if you visit you're likely to see one.

I arrived to the battlefield action a little late, only after hearing a few shots fired. This meant I wasn't able to get a seat in the bleachers, and I'm also not generally one to push my way to the front and make everyone else watch the back of my head.

I overheard some spectators discussing the battles, and one of them mentioned the historical re-enactments aren't always the same every year. This makes sense, I guess you wouldn't want to see the same exact thing year after year.

Pioneers Need Soap 🧼

My friends wanted to get some handmade soap, so they made sure to swing by one of many vendors selling suds. There were so many varieties and scents, and even though I am from Indiana, I didn't recognize half of the plants these soaps were made with.

Copper Lanterns & Hand-Dipped Candles 🕯️

nmnm.png

With soap in hand, we continued our walk around the place and marveled at all the handmade oldschool items. I was very much into this copper candle lantern, but my wife would kill me for buying an $85 candle holder that could be easily substituted with the old empty glass bottle candle holder, true Cambodian style, but not as aesthetically pleasing.

If you buy some fancy wool socks here and leave too close to your new candle lantern, there's a good chance you could burn down your tent. Luckily 'Merican socks and copper candle lanterns were strong enough to defeat the British.

Well, somehow I've still got more Rendezvous pics, even some slo-mo battlefield footage that I'd like to turn into a GIF. I guess this may have to extend into a Part 3 if you all can tolerate that.

Ok can. Part 3 it is!

The history re-enactment changes every year suddenly reminds me of bible study where Matt, Mark, Luke and John are experiencing the same event, but each of them has a different point of view.

I must admit I wasn't paying attention enough to follow exactly which battle was being re-enacted on this day. However, just the uniforms, smell of black powder, and the excitement was enough for me to enjoy it. Now that you mention POV, they should definitely put a Go-Pro on one of the soldier's heads to provide us with a FPS view, it would surely entertain the gamers.
