I've struck a deal with Chairwoman Meow, I will continue to teach her how to hunt at night while the family is sleeping, and she will teach me how to take pleasure in the simple things of life.

It is hard to believe the barely weaned neighbor's kitty that turned up at our doorstep one day and claimed us as her new humans, would thrive in a vegan house void of any form of cat-food. I have always told my family that I respect those who kill for their meaty desires more than those who buy it from a seller and distance themselves from the violence. For this reason I refuse to buy flesh and won't allow it in my house.
Well, I never imagined the cutest serial killer in the universe would post up in my house. I guess I sealed the deal when I rescued her in a storm from the end of a bamboo pole while hungry village dogs waited for her to falter. This little furball of lovejoy entered my life at the right time, where all it seems I have time to do is work, cook, drive, eat, and fall asleep at my desk each morning at 3am. She makes me laugh and keeps me company in the wee hours of the morning, also the time when it's safest to hide her dark secret from the human ladies of my family.
You Want Flesh 🐆 You Kill It Meow
Because she's still a kitty and her momma died before teaching her how to "cat," I feel a sense of responsibility to teach her how to survive in this harsh Cambodian village. Humans with fish heads lying around the house also tend to mistreat dogs and cats, so having an abundant meaty diet free of charge comes with neglect and violence.
I think much like humans, cats develop their tastes and life habits in the early years of life. I would rather Meow be able to live off the abundant source of local insect protein than she can claim without relying on unreliable humans. I haven't gone as far as trapping anything for her, but I point things out and also place her in areas she couldn't normally reach on her own when we go outdoors for hunting.
My wife would rather buy Meow dead fish because she is disgusted by her live grasshopper, cricket, butterfly, moth, and gecko diet. I think the act of hunting and being a mini lion maintains mental health, and soon I'll trust her to hunt 100% by herself once she knows how to avoid the dogs and larger aggressive cats that await her outside. Meow and I both are out of our comfort zones in this strange new friendship, but she didn't choose to be a killer, and none of her killer instincts come from a place of malice or spite.

A little lion indeed! Im glad you let Meow be a cat, some pet owners hman them, even trimming the claws they have ( after ruining a curtain though)
Cats enter my house too, not to seek for adoption but to steal food intended for the next meal. Can't blame them though, they get hungry too
Haha, well luckily we don't have many expensive things in the home, so Meow is free to use whatever she wants as a scratching post, lucky for us that is 75 cent grass brooms. Just like the cats enter your house, that is how she came to us. She is still sometimes spotted at her former home, but she gives us about 70% of her time these days.

I felt so guilty for wanting to buy cat food, both because I'm vegan and it's expensive. I am glad she is okay with eating lots of insects because we are surrounded by forest and Jurassic Park-sized insects. When she eats giant grasshoppers, it sounds like someone is cracking a lobster in the house 😅.
oh, is it really dangerous for Meow to go outside because of the dogs there? That's unfortunate.
There are three or four free-roaming hopeful alphas that love to hunt and eat cats. I think it is how Meow's mother was killed. It puts me in a strange predicament because I am a former dog lover turned cat dad, and now I find myself throwing rocks at certain dogs and chasing them off the property. Strangely enough, the most alpha of all dogs is a pit bull mix, and he's a sweetheart around humans, cats, ducks, chickens, but not other doggos.
