🌡️ Cambodian Cold Snap 🥶 15°C Nighttime Temps Here In Steung Kach 🧊

COLD.png

We are experiencing a cold snap in Cambodia at the moment, and of course being up in the mountains where we are makes this situation more extreme.

Blue But Cold Skies ☀️

VFVFVF.png

It may look warm in the above photo, but I guarantee you it is cold, at least by Cambodian standards. At 3am I recorded the temperature with my digital luggage scale at 15°C, and that is actually in the high 50s in Fahrenheit for you 'Mericans. In all my years in Cambodia I have never seen temps this cold, but it hasn't stopped Monkey-B from being cheeky. She's washing the rice while also hiding and making silly noises at me, can you see her?

Long Sleeves For All 🧥

VCVCCV.png

Even during the day the temperature has rarely been getting above 19°C, so we have been wearing our warmest clothes. Even as I write this post, it's now 1am and I am wearing long underwear with an outer layer of thick fleece, and I am shaking, my fingertips a little hard to move. This might seem like ideal weather for some people, but the only warm-blooded person in our family is Monkey-B, who can seemingly generate infinite heat from within like a superhero

Sideways Fire 🔥.

CDCDCD.png

This weather is expected to last for three days in total, supposedly a belt of cold air has dipped down all the way from China, and this reminds me of my boyhood home, Indiana, also known as Tornado Alley, where cold Canadian air meets warm Gulf air streams and destroys homes and lives every year. There have been some pretty extreme winds here because of similar circumstances, making lighting a fire almost impossible, and even when lit the fires burn horizontally.

Marshmallows & Hot-Dogs Don't Compare To Poppadums 🫓

RRRTT.png

In the good ole' USA, marshmallows and hot-dogs are the preferred food items to roast with an outdoor fire, but as we are vegans, those things don't interest us much. However, we had a strong desire for fire food, and it was then we remembered we have poppadums. My wife grabbed the bag and pulled some coals from the fire to roast and blister the poppadums, the perfect outdoor fire food. Somehow Monkey-B was able to read a book during these rather extreme weather conditions and low light levels.

njnj.png

Poppadom after poppadum was roasted until the fire died down and it was time for bed, or well, in my case, time to work on Hive for several hours while the family sleeps peacefully. These are tough economic times, both for us personally and also for crypto in general, so we can't afford to miss a post at this time. Okay, that is all I have for you folks, my fingers are freezing and I need to get under some blankets ASAP 🥶!!!

Yes, it can be much colder in your country too because you have some really high altitudes in some places there. But the south of your country is also much hotter than Cambodia.

That is shocking for Bankgok, just as cold there and you're not even at altitude. I can't recall experiencing such low temps for so many consecutive days in this part of the world. Don't get me wrong though, I am fully enjoying it.

Since my move to Portugal, I find 10 degrees Celsius cold, so I can relate. Which doesn't mean that we don't have nights near freezing, every now and then, inbetween November and April/ May. Right now, it's Winter with plenty of rain and temperatures that hardly go below 10 Celsius. This would be called Autumn weather, in The Netherlands.

Stay warm! Keep the fire burning ;<)

I guess your new cold in Portugal is nothing like the cold of the Netherlands, but still it's all relative after we get used to the local weather.

I was wearing all the layers of clothes that I could, but still not enough. Luckily the cold temps are over, but I enjoyed it because I get such good deep sleep when it's cold. Thank you my friend for stopping, blessings to you and yours as well.

Currently, almost all countries in Asia are experiencing winter, including where I live, namely Aceh, maybe this is caused by very high rainfall, where I live it rains every day non-stop and floods occur in various areas.

Yes, a lot of areas recently went through a cold spell, even in Bangkok it was 18 degrees. I'm a friend of the cold weather luckily, but not the cold showers in the morning ❄️.

Sitting near fire is the most comforting thing to do for me during cold. But usually , i easily get sick if the temperature continue going down.

This explain the comment you made on my Genting post. It's been raining non stop recently and the temperature remain cold, whilst humid caught up pretty serious. The most recent topic being land slide that covered 3 camping site killing so far 25.

I did hear about that landslide, scary stuff. We've had some mini landslides on our property, but that was during torrential rains. I wish I had gone to Genting instead of Malacca when I visited Malaysia so many years ago, it looks more interesting.

Side note, for fire food, even during Lent season, we managed to roast shitake mushrooms and glaze it with maple syrup 🤣 but never papadom. Papadom usually only goes with deep fried.

Well that shitake bbq sounds a lot more delicious than poppadums. We need to put something on the end of a stick to have true fire fun, shame the kids don't like most mushrooms, otherwise I think some oyster mushrooms would be a good food to be poked with a stick and roasted.

where cold Canadian air

Sure, we always blame Canada for the cold. Never Alaska. Nooo. 😂

It really is interesting how people become accustomed to weather in their area. I still really enjoy 19C weather. My step mother, a Mexican now living in Calgary, still to this day wears turtle necks in autumn.

I also enjoy building a fire in the back yard when it's chilly; I really enjoy doing it when there is snow. A fire and a hot coffee really help me relax.

I prefer to blame it on Canada, after all, you guys have a better health care and social system. Perhaps one day you guys and Key Wests will be generous to rebuild all the Indiana trailer parks your whirlwinds have destroyed 😉.

The Mexican comment reminds me of a town I used to live in. It was Leadville, Colorado, 10,400ft in altitude, and home to minus 4o temps in winter, even saw it snow in July once there. It was/is a poor town, and home to many Mexican immigrants/migrants that take shuttle buses to work at resorts like Vail/Aspen, etc. A lot of these folks were from the lowlands of southern Mexico, so I can't even imagine how miserable the weather seemed to them.

The heat in Borneo is becoming unbearable. Would love to experience a bit of cold weather.

Well, I guess the ocean kills all chances at cold air from the north reaching you. Hope you get some wind and/or shade soon.
