June was up late the next morning. Fog had prevented dawnlight from waking her, and she had wanted to sleep in anyway. June prepared her breakfast with leisure, and even stretched a bit before dressing.

She exited, and as soon as she shut the door her Bodyanchor spiked. She swiveled towards the point of intrusion—it came from above—and braced. It was a small hunk of mineral, speckled with orange, sailing towards her in an arc. Its energy left a fading shadow, and she traced this angle up and away… to the towering steelbarch, a fuzzy green blur in the morning mist.

Boyd made a rude noise and exited in a huff, shutting the door with a bang. Atrocity sat back down, and Frix felt his heart speed up. He placed his hand to his chest, where it prickled instead of stung.

“Right. Six minutes. Hold on, and here.” The sentry dropped a waterskin and melted away. Frix struggled to his feet, took a swig, waited about thirty seconds, then bolted for the town. The water helped a little, but this was truly the last of what was in him. His sprint was loud and messy, and if there were more sentries, he was going to get caught. The one that had left him behind could probably hear it. Too late to think about that now.

He did. All at once. The apple fell out of his hand as the gravity of everything fell back into place.

This line is quite catchy in terms of referring to Newton's law of gravitation. If you turn this story into an RPG game, I think it would be like next Baldur's Gate. Best work bro.

Mossa scrambled up the cliff side and he heard them both scamper away. Frix sat on the beach for a while afterward. He listened to the gurgling swirl of the eddy, blinking away ghostly pink streaks and wondered what it would feel like to fly.
