Standout Tastes But Service Quibbles at Vo Roof Cafe

Greetings, foodie friends!

Navigating Ho Chi Minh City's dining scene solo means leaning on restaurants for sustenance between cultural pursuits. Seeking quality veggie Vietnamese eats keeps me motivated. So when a Saigon blogger tipped me off to Vo Roof Cafe, I welcomed her glowing endorsement...though certain hospitality touches perplexed despite the awesome vibe and flavors!

Tucked on the first and second level of a slim building along a congested street, Vo Roof's minimal signage at street level got drowned by urban cacophony. But spying abundant potted plants framing a sunny balcony above showed ample promise. I soon emerged utterly charmed by the breezy patio dotted with verdant accents, exposed brick, and pops of color from diners' vibrant garb. Their globally inspired menu highlighted vegetarian takes on Vietnamese classics.

I settled on a perfect table at the balcony edge for cinematic views of motorbikes swirling two stories below while awaiting my summer roll appetizer and tofu with thin rice noodles. The atmosphere really proved this cafe's strength - airy, chic, carefree. And the fresh flavors delivered too - clean, balanced, yet still richly satisfying. I eagerly cleared my plate while observing the traffic choreography render even messy intersections into mesmerizing ballets. But certain missing hospitality niceties nagged...

So what quibbles could possibly surface when enjoying affordable nourishment at such a supreme vantage? Mainly the oddly separate charges for necessities higher end venues include gratis, like drink water or moist hand wipes! Despite fair entree costs, basic wet wipes landed on a side plate as if a courtesy...then appeared indelicately on my final bill!

3000 VND for a wet whip.. why?

Why isolation charge diners to freshen before eating? Stranger still, requesting simple water, servers refused tap, instead pushing plastic bottles instead. Puzzling upcharges subtracted from Vo Roof's five star potential.

Have your own restaurant misstep tales amid otherwise awesome experiences?

Share below! For now, I applaud Vo Roof Cafe's design and flavors while nudging them to show more across-the-board grace fitting their prices and standards. Till next serving! 🥡

That is odd, charging your customer with the moist hand wipes. 😀

But that food looks delicious though.

Yes, I agree with you.
But its a thing they do in Vietnam... when you go to a place, they will place things like nuts or something on the table, if you touch them, they will add that to the bill... Tourist traps, I can see this happening at as its about sucking money from guests, but from a nice place like this, I was surprised.
