LAST WEDDING I ATTENDED

A wedding i attended in 2021

There is never a dull Nigerian party
I'm from Nigeria and the statement above is one i would say is around 90% true. There's a lot of economic problems and whenever we get a chance to celebrate, we like to do it properly.

Birthday parties, weddings and even solemn situations like burials are celebrated to the point you begin to wonder if someone actually died, this is termed celebration of life.
We believe it's honoring the memories of the deceased by celebrating them with much fanfare (of course the crying would've taken place before the party).

For some reason that I've not figured out, weddings are the amongst the least of parties i've so far attended even though i get invited all the time.
The last one i attended left me with mixed feeling and I've not attended any for a while now. Ask any Nigerian and they'll tell you that the worst crime you can commit at a party is for your guest not to eat anything, especially our jollof rice.

This rule is an unwritten criminal offense and although it's usually just friendly banter when a friend tells you he'll disown you if there's no surplus food at your party.
This says a lot about how much of a host we are at our parties.

The last wedding i attended was one that involved an extended family member, so there was no escape from it. The D-Day arrived and i arrived in my white outfit.
I don't know what it is with me and children, but wherever i am i love to play with them.

On this day, i arrived and almost immediately i was asked what i wanted to eat. Feeling there was still time, i declined and went around trying to make small talk and catch up with family members i had seen in a long time.
Unfortunately going around meant that all the little children from the family knew i was around and soon flocked to where i was seated.

Even after numerous shouting and caution, the children didn't listen and were running around. That was when one accidentally bumped into a guest carrying food and everything poured on my body.

Another wedding i attended

My white outfit had been turned into a rainbow of many colors. As expected, everyone flocked around apologizing for the accident, like there was anything i could do about it.
I ended up not eating any of the sumptuous meals available as i soon lost interest in eating anything.

I couldn't even take any pictures with the couple as my outfit was a mess. Taking my refusal to eat anything as a supposed reaction to the incident that happened earlier, i was almost loaded with food enough to last for two days in their bid to placate me.

There was no way i could say no to food, besides in my opinion it's an offense going to a party and not tasting the party food.
Even though my day didn't go as planned, at least i went home with more than enough goodies.

I never wore the outfit after that day because the stains refused to come off completely. The material used to sew it had been a birthday gift from someone, so i had an attachment to the outfit.

Children can't help but run around at special events, paying no heed to hot food, trays of glassware, people serving, etc. It's too bad it ruined your outfit!

This is a crime punishable by a very big slap 😂😂💔

I'm sorry for outfit got ruined though. It just had to be on a day you wore white.
At least you got a lot as an apology, perhaps more than you'd have even gotten if the accident hadn't happened.
