Today is Sunday and I am planning to visit my Grandparents again at their place. Last visit, we are planning to cook minoron, one of the best snacks in Samar Philippines. My Grandparents born in that place and migrated here in Mindanao many years ago. The culture, traditions and ways of cook are also bring including this delicious Minoron Snacks. Last visit, I asked my Grandma about the Ingredients so that I will buy those ingredients and brought in their place for my next visit. It takes a few hours of having an enjoyable conversations and giving the exact Ingredients of this snacks.

Went To Supermarket to Buy some Ingredients:

Minoron snacks is not popular here in Mindanao as far as I know but my Grandparents knows how to make at cook this. They told to list the desired ingredients just like;

  • Powdered Milk
  • White Sugar
  • Margarine
  • Condense Milk

There are only few ingredients about this snacks and it is not really expensive and cannot expense much money. I decided to went to supermarket to buy those Ingredients and it was lucky for me because there are not having a lot of customers that makes me keep waiting in line. I carefully grab those Important Ingredients and checking carefully to see if it complete. After that, I proceed to my Grandparents place to start watching and learning how to cook. I am willing to know how to cook and my Grandma also willing to teach me.

As I arrived at the place, I noticed my Cousin being busy picking those coconut leaves piece-by-piece. This will be use to wrapped those crushed palaw crops to make it minoron. He carefully removed the coconut leaves from the Palm and cleaned the leaves one-by-one to removed the insects living in the leaves just like ants. My Grandma also checked if the leaves is good to use, well they are very expert in this.

After smashing the palaw crops with the help of my Aunt, they put it in this big steel things so that it can put together. After putting it, my Grandparents add the white sugar, powdered milk and they mix it very well so that it will balance the taste. Adding milled rice makes the minoron soft and smells very good. They also add margarine to make the snacks even more tastier .

Adding condense milk makes this food moist and delicious. After mixing some the ingredients, they also add condense milk and mix it well again. Well they make hand mixing but they used plastic cellophane gloves use for eating just to keep the snacks clean. By keeping the snacks moist makes it easier to formed it into circle shapes and easy to wrapped it in a coconut leaves.

Wrapping it with coconut leaves is tricky and it needs to be done by the expert. It must be in perfect wrapped and the mixed ingredients must be wrap and covered. This will help so that it wont be spilled at the steamer once it will going to cook. I also tried to help wrapping the Minoron and this is what I make, my Grandma was laughing because I failed many times before I perfectly wrapped and formed into circle shapes.

To make the work done faster, my Grandma was forming a round shape with the minoron while my Grandpa wrapping those formed round shapes. Almost 150 Round shapes formed and it takes a few hours of wrapping it before placing at the steamer to cook.

To keep myself busy, I transferred and arranged it in the steamer so that it will be started to cook in time. I carefully place it so that it wont be damage or destroyed , I placed it one-by-one and piled up very very perfectly that's what my Grandma teach me how to do. Finally It is time to cook for 45 minutes and maintain heat, and I was very excited to taste this delicious snacks.

After waiting for 45 minutes, its time to snacks. We got one piece of minoron and taste to check if it is time eat and my Grandma told me that it is time eat minoron. This kind of snacks is very perfect s business here and those kind of activities is also serve as bonding time with me and my Grandparents.
