During the Christmas holiday we went skiing in Austria. It has been a few years ago that I went skiing in the mountains and for my kids it was the first time.
We stayed in a town called Kaprun. Kaprun is close to the Kitzsteinhorn; a glacier from more than 3,000 metres high. On top they have built a mountain observation deck at the altitude of 3029 meters.

The trip to the top is a long one. We had to take a couple of different gondola's to reach it.
The last part of the ascent was with a huge funicular which could fit at least 60 people.

It has been quite warm in the alps in December, so in the village at the foot of the mountain it was a couple of degrees above 0. But the higher we went, the more snow there was. Here you can see the different runs for skiers and snowboarders.

There was still quite a bit of green, but the tops of the mountains were covered in snow.

I really love the roughness of the mountains. And the way the snow looks a lot like the clouds.

On the top of the Kitzsteinhorn at an altitude of 3029 meters they have built an observation deck and a restaurant. From the deck you have an fenomenal view of the surrounding mountains.
In the back you can see the lake near Sell Am See.

The triangular platform of the viewpoint protrudes from the building. The floor consists of a metal grid through which you can see the abyss. It's quite exciting to walk there.

And again; the view from the panorama deck is amazing. We were fortunate it was a sunny day and we had a great view of the surroundings. Below in the snow you see the ski slopes.
