Cycling through the polder

This weekend the weather was really nice. It was sunny and about 20 degrees Celcius.
Since my cycling weekend in Rhineland-Palatinate two weeks ago (from which I haven't made a post yet, but I will) I didn't go for a bigger ride.
But Sunday the weather was just perfect. We had some appointments in the morning, so I decided to get on my bike late in the afternoon. Soon Daylight Saving Time Ends and it will be turning dark at 5 in the afternoon, so I have to take advantage of it being light in the afternoon and early morning now I still can.

It was a nice round of just over 50 kilometers through the polder. As you might know The Netherlands used to be a country with a lot of swampy areas. The settlers created dikes and started pumping out the water with windmills. These areas are called polders.
We still have a lot of them in The Netherlands.

Although the function of the windmills have been replaced by electric pumps you can still spot a lot of them around the polders. Not all of them were used to pump water from the polders though. There were also windmills to make flour from grain which was used to make bread.

The polders are a great area to relax. You spot a lot of cyclists, runners and skaters on the cycling paths. It's a nice and quiet area in the usually crowded western part of The Netherlands.
This area has a lot of cycling paths which you cannot get by car.

I really enjoyed the ride and hope you like my blog about it.

Never new the term polders, lovely region with old mills still standing whether in use or not they are a huge attraction.

Sounded like a most enjoyable ride, with superb lighting late afternoon for photography!

Thank God Spring has just arrived here, after months of miserable outdoor training without the sun warmth.

I love this quiet area just for riding bicycle. There won't be any forms of disturbance

Apart from other cyclists and people that go for a walk it's nice and quiet indeed.
