ExpTrader back in buisness, in Warhammer buisness

Hello Exptrader here and now finally back in beautiful northern Germany

After exactly 55 days I am finally back home and looking forward to the few days I can now devote to my family, trading and hobbies.

I'll tell you in another post what my project at sea was like and what it was like for me to fly in a helicopter for the first time. As I was in Scotland I didn't get to see enough whisky and was about to take it all with me, probably to my wife's chagrin

This post is about the Warhammer40k hobby, especially painting my Dark Angels army.

As you can see from the thumbnail, I have unpacked my army and what bothers me at the moment is the base colour green. If you are familiar with the DA you know that they have a dark green colour and a lighter green at the edges.

I have had this army for a very long time and initially painted it with a military green from the brand "Revell" because it was cheaper than Citadell paint at the time (at that time I didn't have a job where I could afford it ;) ).

Now I looked a bit on the internet and especially in my Codex book of the DA and found out that the dark green colour...is very very dark. To understand my confusion I don't have that much green colour

I own:

Military green from Revell ( current base colour )
Calabran Green (base)
Dark angel green (contrast)

This limits my light dark colour pattern a lot, although I have to say that I don't see the point of buying a lighter colour when I can lighten the Calabran Green with "White scar".

I took a figure and had a look at the contrasts that my colours provide.

As I said, the figure is primed with Revell paint and I painted Calaban Green over the shoulder armour and the Contrast colour on the top right corner.

My guess is that the Contrast colour will be very close to the book model and I will have to lighten the Calabran green to get the same result.

After thinking back and forth (and as I feel I have no time) I wanted to make a decision and finally start painting.

So I took my Inceptors (the only ones that were "grey") and primed them with Calabran green.

Side note: Companymarks

I'll be honest, that was one thing about the Dark angels or the Marines in general that really bothered me:

Company markings

I have no idea which one to use. The codex book gives me a few to choose from

The easiest is the 6th company to paint, the best known is the 5th company.

I think the 4th company is very challenging and I'm not quite sure which one to choose. After all, it's my first DA army and I'm not sure. But I will let you know which one I choose. It remains exciting

The red colour of horror

What I love about the DA is the red colour of the bolters and weapon systems with the blue shimmer of the plasma, it's both calming and frightening at the same time. But I have a problem with my red colour:

It's not as fluid as my other colours. I proceed as follows. I dilute the colour with a little water to put several layers over it so that it covers the surface evenly. If I don't do this, there are lumps of colour in certain places and that doesn't look so good

With these two pictures I wanted to show the problem I have. There is more colour in some places than in others and it is a bit frustrating for me. As I actually take my time and want to have fun but when something doesn't work out the way I want it to, I start to get frustrated and paint out of frustration. Which is strange because, as you can see, I've painted the eyes and the helmet almost perfectly with the red colour of death, but I haven't figured out what I've done differently.

In any case, I put a lot of time into it because it was already getting dark. I managed to paint the breastplate in gold and the next step is to paint the weapons in metal colour

**To be honest, I'm not happy with the current green colour I've painted on the Inceptors, but I can't say for sure until I've painted the light green colour on the edges. Maybe it will be something and I'll keep you up to date.

See you then**
