Giving a second life to my books for Market Friday

MFMLibros.jpg

A few weeks ago, a friend told me that she had found a great place where you could take the books you wanted to get rid of. It is a foundation that promotes reading and accepts any kind of books as donations.

So last week, I picked out some of the books from our library. We have too many. I also gathered the school books from when my son went to school and put them in boxes. And I went to the place that had been recommended to donate them.

MFM_1.jpg

The most incredible thing is that the site is close to where I live. And I had passed in front of the place lots of times without knowing what that little house was about.

MFM_2.jpg

I also got a wonderful surprise, since I didn't expect such an organized place. It is more than a place to donate books. When you enter, it is as if you were in a small library.

MFM_3.jpg

Everything is very organized. It is a foundation to promote reading, and with the books they receive as donations, they organize book fairs in schools and universities. And the motto is Donate and adopt a book. Because for every donation you make, you can adopt a book. And you can register in their database to be aware of the activities they organize.

MFM_4.jpg

I loved the extensive collection of history books they have on display.

MFM_5.jpg

There is a place to sit and browse through the books. It was a pleasant surprise that there were people in the place doing so.

MFM_6.jpg

If you get tired of looking at books, you can play a game of chess.

MFM_8.jpg

There is a section of books for children. And I loved this section they called the Araguaney of knowledge. The Araguaney with beautiful yellow flowers is the national tree.

And I wish that the habit of reading would spread more among the young people and children here like the branches of an Araguaney tree.

MFM_9.jpg

Of course, I adopted a book. And as I had gone with my mother to bring the boxes, we were able to adopt two.

My mom adopted an edition of We the Living (Lo que Vivimos)

100Ade Soledad.jpg

I opted to adopt an edition of Cien Años de Soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude), even though I have mine at home and do not plan to donate it. But I wanted another one to give to my son to take to college when he comes in December. He has a friend there who speaks Spanish and wants to read it.

I still have books to donate, so I'm sure I'll be back, and I might even go there some afternoon to look through the books.

The foundation is called MFM. If you are in Caracas and don't know what to do with some of your books, this is a great option.

This is my participation for this week's #MarketFriday started by @dswigle.

Thank you for reading.

That really is fantastic.

You cannot beat the feel of a printed book!

I will be honest, I have not got into reading a novel online at all. I will listen to an audio of it.

This is great to see and I wish we did something similar here. Our libraries are only so useful and not that great at getting more kids to read and gain more knowledge!

I agree, the feel of a printed book can't be beaten.

I have read online and digital books, but I love a book on paper. I'm not so much a fan of audiobooks.

This initiative is great. Here reading is often undervalued and initiatives like this seem so valuable to me.

Have a wonderful weekend, Super Ed 🌀

The place is great, sis. And it's very quiet too. Not many people know it exists.

Greetings from dswigle! You must drop your link in the #MarketFriday post here

Thank you very much!

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

1.Go to any type of market, or anywhere where you pay money for a service. It can be a museum, a movie theatre, or an auction. Be creative!
2.Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? We like to compare prices, otherwise, it is just pictures of a market!
3.Post the pictures! No out-of-focus ones, please! Tell a little bit about the pictures that you post. Having many pictures to scroll through does not make a better post without explanation.
4.Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post #hive-196308 (this is not required, but appreciated) If you don't, then #MarketFriday should be your first tag
5.Following me and reblogging the post so more see it would be appreciated !! Not a rule, just appreciated, more vision for more views on your posts!
. 6.You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
7.#MarketFriday post should be submitted sometime on Friday UTC
8.The post MUST be in English
9.Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it

Its great to see that there are everywhere on earth those places to honor used books.
I wonder how many tons of books exist at all?

I had never asked myself that question, hehe but it would be interesting to know. It's true that places like that honor used books, and give them new opportunities to continue to be read. That's wonderful.

How important is the promotion of reading, as well as the preservation of books, donations and support for these places. I loved the photographs. Thank you @coquicoin 😀

This is such a wonderful place! I love that not only do they encourage reading, but, also made it into a place to come and socialize on a different level. Chess, or chairs in a small gathering, perhaps to encourage talk.

In so many ways, this is like a little community right here. Someplace to encourage gathering and sharing.

I am guessing they have other organized things to put people and books together. I love this idea and I have a house of readers, which I love. It is an everyday love affair for me!

Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
