If there is one thing I have learned about life, it is the beauty that having options have brought for us. Having a variety to choose from is one of life’s greatest gifts because it always gives us a chance to know ourselves better and therefore become better individuals as well.

This is because, in the end, it is the choices that we make that will either make or mar us. These choices will either uplift us to the position we would love to find ourselves in, or they would bring us down to our lowest ruins. Either way, when we get to that point, we would know very well that it was all a result of the choices we made.

Variety is the spice of life.

I have always wondered how life would be if everyone was the same. Not in gender, but in other aspects. Like, how the world would be if all men were tall, dark, and handsome. If every man had the most captivating eyes and just about oozed sexiness. And then, how the world would be if every single woman on earth were drop-dead gorgeous. And I mean hot to the point where jaws will drop to the ground.

Now, I’m not saying people are not beautiful. But you have to agree with me that there are levels to this beauty, some have it more than others. But then, let us take it away from people. What if there was only one kind of car a person could drive? Or there was only one kind of music that could ever be made? What if there is only one game we can love and play? What if there is only one religion in the world?

How do you think the world would be if it was shrunk to these things? Would it still be the fun and interesting world we have today? Would people still be making the mistakes they are making today? And will there be people who will excel more than others?

Personally, I really don’t think the world would be a better place if the variety was taken away. Every single one of us has a “spec”. We all know what we want out of life, and despite what we see out there, we know that we can only be truly happy when we have gotten those things.

When it comes to partners, what’s the fun if everyone looks the same? There are a lot of people that actually are not interested in society’s general description of a beautiful man or woman. There are many people that are not even concerned about outward looks, they only focus on what the individual has to offer. And this is what makes it beautiful. Because no one is perfect, it is in those ‘flaws’ and ‘imperfections’ that we are able to find strength and grow as a person. One of the things we are to learn early in life is to be comfortable in our skin and to be happy about our body, no matter how it is. And that is the first step towards self-confidence. It is only when you see yourself as beautiful that someone else can look at you and see the beauty.

And for other things, I can’t even imagine how boring life would be if everyone had to drive the same car! Imagine being stuck in Lagos traffic and all you can see stretching for miles are Toyota Corollas or Siennas. All of them are the same color, and the same model but in different states of maintenance. Hell, it would look like the beginning of the apocalypse.

As it is, I can’t even imagine how horrible my life would be if I were to be limited to one type of song only. I would cry every day. Because I don’t have a preferred genre of music. I listen to blues, hip-hop, fuji, afro. I even listen to Korean and Japanese songs (mostly soundtracks from movies I’ve seen), and I listen to instrumentals by famous players. Many times, I select the kind of song based on my mood, and since I’m streaming, the algorithm just keeps on giving me more of what I want. It will be really messed up if I wanted to close my eyes and think with some sweet blues playing in my head and all I had to keep me company was Naira Marley blaring in my ears; "abi kin kpe Rexxii?"

As we grow older, religion becomes more of a thing of choice. Many of us are raised in one religion and find ourselves moving to another when we grow. This is because as we mature and form our identity, we might come to realize that the other religion is more in tune with who we are and we can relate better. It’s just another part of our growth.

As I have managed to explain, variety is the spice of life. That is why everyone uses it. Giving people choices makes them think they have all the power whereas they are only doing what you want. We see it every day in businesses. Manufacturers like Toyota, also own Lexus, they give you two choices. Tecno also owns Infinix, you get two choices. Whichever way your decision leans, it favors them.

So, my dear friends, no matter where you find yourself in life, no matter how people might try to belittle you. Know that you are not common at all, you are one in 8 billion people (the number of people in the world), and in my books that makes you very unique. And as long as you are the only you, you are the most beautiful, the most gorgeous, the sexiest, and the most…(anything else you can think of).

You are!

If there exists no variety within humans it would be hard to recognize the desired human. And if everyone looks like same then there would be nothing beautiful because in the current time, beautiful means one kind of comparison. So, no variety means no beauty in this world.
Besides the variety of thinking makes people unique and makes the world beautiful.

Indeed... if there is no variation, there will be no beauty. Life will be boring and without much flavor.
Thank you for reading.

I think it's like day and night. Both need to co-exist otherwise both are meaningless.
