It’s a new year and it’s about time for us to start working on the goals we’ve set out for ourselves, something that we know won’t be easy. And for us to succeed in them, we have to be willing to accept the fact that the success won’t come on a smiling face. We have to be willing to make sacrifices and give up on things that are not helping us out, no matter how much we enjoy them.

One major skill we need as humans is the ability to let go of things that bog us down. If we can’t do this simple thing, then we’d find it hard to grow. These things could be friends, they could be habits, or even activities, however, the mere fact that they stop us from reaching our goals is enough reason to do away with them. If not, we’ll find ourselves stuck in the same place regardless of how hard we’ve worked.

And for me, I have just one thing that has been holding me back for quite a while and it’s something that I want to get rid of once and for all this year. And that is the bad habit of waiting for perfection. You see, there is striving for perfection and there is also waiting for perfection. One is good and the other is bad because it will only keep you waiting and waiting without any major thing happening in your life.

One of my major flaws is that I’m always waiting for the perfect time, the perfect scenario, the perfect weather. I want things to go so perfectly that I’m willing to wait until all the perfect elements I need are in place. But I’ve learned the hard way that such a thing rarely happens. If you keep waiting, you’ll only end up waiting forever, and before you know it, another year has gone by and you haven’t done jack because you’re waiting for perfection.

So, I say not anymore! When I want to do something, I gather the little resources I can and just do it. I will still do it to the best of my ability, I will still try to make it as perfect as possible, but I’m not going to wait until everything I want is in place so I can have the perfect product. That’s only a myth.

The thing about this flaw is that it’s a very deceptive one and you won’t even know that you have a problem. You’d have great ideas in your head, workable ideas that you can get on with, but they’ll never leave your head because you’re waiting for something that’s not going to come. You’d keep explaining to people why you’re yet to start working on your dreams and all your excuses would sound so logical and smart because you really know what you’re saying. But in the end that’s all it really is, a bunch of excuses.

So, I’m really planning to do better and even be better. I can’t afford to be sleeping on my dreams right now, there is so much at stake and so many things I have to do that I can’t just leave my dreams untapped because I’m waiting for perfection. I’m going after what I want, perfect or not.

If perfection comes, then all the better, and if it doesn’t, all the same as well. Besides, what’s the guarantee that when you get the perfect scenario you’ll still work? After all, I postponed using original images until I got a good phone, but then even after I did get the phone it took me months before I started taking pictures for my blog. And even more months before I started making videos.

I’m done waiting. I’m simply doing my thing. Once I get the idea, I immediately do it. Waiting for perfection is not going to do anyone any good, and this year, there will be no more waiting for me.

Ha! A lot of people can relate to this. We wait and wait and wait for the perfect time, perfect outcome, perfect everything before we do something. The sad truth is that this perfect timing never comes. I hope this year will help all of us get rid of seeking perfection and start acting on our ideas.

Yesso! We just go after what we want and stop waiting for perfection! Simple.

I have noticed that we sometimes make mistakes all in the name of wanting to be perfect
We should not force things cos what will be will be

Exactly... if we keep on waiting, nothing will happen.

Certainly, man! Seeking perfection isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on the context, but when it starts holding us back in other aspects, we really should be concerned. You were wise to identify this personal inclination for things to be perfect; waiting for it might be an endless wait. Sometimes the imperfect can be perfect, think about it!

Yeah... there can be perfection even in imperfection. We have to be positive enough to be able to see the potential in every scenario we find ourselves.

Indeed if we don't move now, we might be stuck just right where you are. Speaking of letting go of things that aren't pushing us towards our goals. This is something I really need to put in place.

Thanks for putting out such an amazing piece

Perfection is an imaginary thing and it can't be achieved doesn't matter how much we try. In the case of work, I think we should not wait for the perfect time because time is precious but we can try to make the current time perfect for us and it's the best thing we can do rather than waiting.

Time is precious indeed, the more we wait for it, the more we lose it.
We shouldn't lose any more of it.
