Cheap Silver with Silverada

IMG20221217170406.jpg

Of all the silver pieces I have collected these past couple of years, this BTC round continues to be one of my favorite. In fact, I bought it to gift to my nephew as his godfather, but I liked it so much that I ended up finding something else in my stash to give him and I kept it for myself.

True story!

I was looking for some inspiration for this weeks #threetunetuesday post and I just happened to come across a band called Silverada which really felt fitting. Then I started digging into their songs catalog and the combination of music and silver just seemed like a foregone conclusion. It would have been criminal not to write about this.

Heads up!

If you aren't a fan of country music, you probably aren't going to care for this post. Sorry @dbooster!

Then again, maybe I can turn you on to something new... The band is out of Austin, Texas, so to call them strictly country would be a bit of a stretch. A lot of us probably know some wacky things come out of Texas. In fact, Wikipedia classifies them as an Americana band or a neotraditional country band. To me that means they are a bit more folk than country, but many of there songs have that country sound.

Actually, many of their songs have that old style country sound which I really love. The kind of sound that bands like Midland, and several others have brought back to the mainstream over the past several years.

So, without further hesitation, let's commence with this weeks #threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze!

Don't let the title of this clip fool you. Mike and the Moonpies is what this band was formerly known as. Up until about January of this year when they announced they would be changing their name to Silverada. Oddly enough, I just learned that while I was writing this post. I would have guessed they were a new band, but instead they have been kicking around since about 2007. That's quite a resume they have going.

They have nine albums under their belt with the most recent being the self titled Silverada. "Cheap silver and solid country gold" seemed like a perfect song to include in this post. I haven't checked the spot price of silver lately, but last I knew it had fallen a bit from the previous highs we were seeing.

It's interesting how the west and precious metals kind of intertwine throughout history. I think it is anyway.

"You look good in neon" actually isn't a new song to me. I was familiar with this song back when the band was Mike and the Moonpies, but as I said, I never pieced the two together until this morning. See, we are all being introduced to new things today!

There is a bit of talking at the beginning of the video, so if you just want to hear the song you can fast forward until about 1:15. If you still don't like that smooth old style country sound, maybe play it at 2x speed or something. I don't know.

I think one of the things that really makes these song stand out for me is the inclusion of the steel slide guitar. There is something about it that makes a song feel much older than it actually might be when you add that steel slide in. That's my opinion anyway.

@mrsbozz and I have talked about visiting Austin, TX in the past to hear this kind of music. I'm more of fan of it than she is, but she would humor me if we ever made it down there. I've heard though that Austin is starting to turn into more of a tech town and the vibe isn't quite the same as it used to be.

Finally, I'm going to leave you with one last song from Mike and the Moonpies aka Silverada. Miss Fortune seems to fit really well with the silver and precious metal theme as well. I wonder if there is an official count somewhere of how many people traveled off into the old west looking for fortune never to be heard from again.

Even today we hear stories of folks losing their lives looking for some long lost treasure. The Forrest Fenn one comes to mind. Clearly, they aren't really talking about precious metals in this post. Like most "country" songs it has to do with a woman or some kind of failed relationship. I still think it's a great song though. Check out the mini solo section right around the two minute mark. The focus on the slide steel and some of the guitar riffs are pretty cool. Even if you don't like country music, you have to appreciate the musicianship at least a little bit.

That's all I've got for you this week. I hope you enjoyed!

Cool Bitcoin round.

I like country music, I will have to listen to these cow pokes later though. Just not in a country mood this morning if you know what I mean.

Hope your week is going well so far, take care!

I'm one of those that hates country music. It isn't quite a universal hatred though. For instance, I like Johnny Cash, there is some Bluegrass music I like, etc. It's just like a 98% hatred, lol.

I gotcha. I like all of it, but I probably gravitate towards the older stuff more. There was some really classic stuff out there. Bluegrass is cool too.
