Sweep Sweep Sweep

My wife and I were sitting at home watching the live stream of our oldest niece playing softball yesterday and we could hardly believe that her sophomore year of university is almost behind her. The double header against Walsh University on Monday was the last home game of the season for the Tiffin Dragons.

Let's back up a little bit though.

Due to some shuffling with the schedule over the weekend, the games against Walsh were pushed until Monday. The double header versus Malone University took place on Sunday. Unfortunately, Malone is a fairly decent team and they got swept in that double header losing 1 to 8 in the first game and 2 to 7 in the second game. The good news is, they didn't get run ruled, so that is a silver lining.

It's got to be hard with two of your best players out for the season. Pitching has been a struggle for them this year and losing one of their aces just compounds that fact. At this point, they are on the fence as far as making it to the playoffs in a couple of weeks.

Yesterday the games went a little better with them sweeping Walsh University in the double header. They won both games 5 to 4 and from what I hear they were closer matchups than they needed to be. Walsh isn't that good, but with two of your starters on the bench, it opens the door to all kinds of possibilities I guess.

My niece is still struggling to hit consistently. She was a pinch runner in the first game and ended up scoring the walk off game winning run, so that is cool. She also got a hit, but they didn't count it as a hit, they counted it as an error on the other team. Which sucks for her stats, but it is what it is I guess.

I can't imagine how different it is to play at the university level versus what she was used to through her high school years. She really dominated that arena, so it just goes to show you how the level of competition can increase.

I'm sure she will figure it out. She just needs to get back to basics and stop overthinking it. Then she will be crushing the ball like old times!

They have four double headers on the road through the end of April and then hopefully they will be playing in the playoffs. If not, I still think it was a good season for them. They showed a lot of improvement over last year and I am looking forward to seeing what the coach continues to do with the team via recruiting and transfers.

I mentioned in a post last week about my setup for watching the games at work. You can see it in the opening photo. I have the live stream up on the top monitor and then I use my laptop for the stats. The only problem is, the stats are a little ahead of the stream, so if you are focusing on the stats, it kind of spoils the "live" action!
