Dragons get swept, Shamrocks strike back!

It was a full day of softball for me even though I was at work. I kind of love the fact that Universities play softball in the middle of the day on weekdays. It allows me to sit in my office and watch my niece play while still getting some work done.

I have a pretty sweet setup for watching it. I have 14" laptop that I can have the stats open on and then I have a larger monitor mounted on the wall that I can watch the live stream on. I'll have to remember to take a photo of it the next time there is a game on. Tomorrow I think!

Unfortunately, the Tiffin Dragons faced a good team from Hillsdale University yesterday and they got swept in the double header. The Dragons are still 20-18 on the season, but they are on the wrong side of three game losing streak.

Hillsdale is a conservative college in Michigan that my wife and I drove to last year to watch them play against Tiffin. Hillsdale has been pretty highly ranked as far as softball the last couple of years. It's not entirely surprising they took both wins yesterday, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

The first game was a 2 to 6 loss for the Dragons. They weren't looking horrible, the defense just had a few miscues. Unfortunately, one of Tiffin's power hitters got injured during the game, so her return is going to be questionable. On top of that, their freshman ace pitcher is dealing with some issues and well and she is likely out for the rest of the season.

Tiffin is going to need to shore up the ship if they want to finish strong this season. Some of the ladies from the junior varsity squad might be able to step up and prove their worth.

The second game was a 0 to 3 loss for the Dragons. My niece had a couple of good hits across both games making it onto base, but not being able to cross the plate. I can only imagine how hard it must be to work so hard for something and then fall short. I am very proud of her no matter what. I think the Dragons still have a lot of fire left in them despite the recent setbacks.

We get to find out how they adjust on Saturday when they have a double header against Walsh University.

When my wife and I got home from work, we quickly turned the TV on and started the stream of my other nieces high school game. The lady Shamrocks had a tough contest against The Hilliard Davidson Wildcats. It was a definite battle marred by some pretty bad defense at times.

Similar to the game two days ago the coach made some questionable calls as well that nearly cost them the game. I understand that knowing when to send a runner and when not to can be a sticky situation, but there are times when it is pretty clear. You have no one to blame but yourself if you send one of your players in to that situation.

Thankfully, the Rocks pulled off a narrow 7 to 6 victory. Additionally, after a slow start, my niece got a home run, so that was awesome to see. The funny thing is, her next at bat after that home run they intentionally walked her. Guess they were a little scared. At the very least, they respect the talent.

Tonight the Rocks face off against their rival Upper Arlington. UA has a pretty bad reputation for being stuck up. Then again, compared to where I grew up, every town on the west side of Columbus is probably pretty stuck up!

If I am reading this right, it looks like they are 1 - 7 on the season, so this could be a good night for the Shamrocks. Fingers crossed!

I love watching sports where I have a family member involved. When I was in college my sister played college basketball at a Div-1 level. Except for the Caitlin Clark hysteria that is sweeping the nation, I really don't give a damn about women's basketball or really most women's sports generally speaking. Things change when you are bound by blood with someone on the team though. I think it is awesome that these are televised, so to speak, for you.

I can understand what you are saying. I definitely care a lot more about women's sports now than I did before my nieces were playing. Sad, but it's just a fact.
