Crypto is like Soccer

I had planned on writing a post about a different topic today. I had some pretty good wins last weekend with my sports betting, so I was going to revive that series. Then I read this post by @edicted and it got me thinking about crypto and sports and soccer and how the two are so closely related.

Have I lost you yet? Stick with me, I promise this is going to be good.

The fans are fanatics and the haters are vocal

The people who love soccer are pretty passionate about it. Likewise, the people who hate soccer are equally as passionate. Have you ever been in the comments section of major news article about crypto? How many of the comments mention "ponzi", "scam", "tulips", or something similar. People who aren't fans of crypto have any number of reasons why they think it is a joke.

I can attest that people who aren't fans of soccer are exactly the same. I myself have made my fair share of jabs at soccer and the ridiculously made up rules like off-sides and things like that.

Then you have the fans, the die hard lovers of the game who let it take over their lives. They live and breath it and talk about it every waking hour.

Sound familiar?

Pace of play

One of the biggest issues that I think a lot of people have with soccer is the pace of play. There is an old Simpsons skit I love where they make fun of soccer. The American announcer is talking about players passing the ball back and forth to each other.

The fact is, unless the two teams are obscenely mismatched, that's mostly what a game consists of. Offense testing the defense, kicking it back to the defense to reset. Rinse and repeat. Occasionally, you get those attacks on goal that are often quite exciting, but then you settle back into the center of the field.

Remember a couple of years ago when BTC was hovering between that $38K and $42K mark? It seemed to drag on and last forever. Testing $42,000, falling back to $40,000. Then falling even further back to $38,000. Only to advance again and just fall short.

I think you see where I am going with this...

The World Cup! I mean halving

Then, like bright shining ray of light every four years we have the halving/World Cup. People who never cared about soccer crypto before are suddenly the biggest fans on Earth. Excitement and hype is at an all time high. People are throwing money at tokens, jerseys, tickets right and left. The sky is the limit and they will do anything they can to show their newfound support for their team.

I can't make this stuff up, it's literally playing out right before our eyes! You see it don't you?

Sure, there are plenty of other sports you could probably compare crypto to, but I really feel like soccer fits the bill the best.

It's almost like they were born in the same breath.

What do you think? Are you picking up what I'm putting down?
