The Blue Pill.

"She's the only one that can help. We have to find her." Darren, Claire's friend, said while typing away on his laptop.

"I don't believe such people exist and if they do, they must have gone into extinction." Claire replied, holding on her head while closing her eyes in tiredness.

Raising his face from the laptop, Darren let out a huge sigh. "Claire, you can't continue living like this. It is getting worse, and we can't lose you too. I can't lose you, so please, let's just give this a go. What have we got to lose?" Darren replied, staring at his best friend with gloomy eyes.

Letting out a huge sigh, Claire stared at her friend and smiled a bit. He is the only one who has stayed with her after the incident with her... well, technically, he is the only one who puts up with her despite her harsh words to him. He understood her pain, and she was thankful for having him with her. However, asking her to look for someone who she's not even sure exists is a conversation she is not ready to have. She has been invading his questions on finding that person until today.

"Alright, Mr. Darren," she said with a chuckle. "Let's give it a try, but you know..." holding on her breath for a while, she let it off. "I can't have the same enthusiasm you have with this new adventure you want us to embark on. I am really tired and dying does sound like the best thing, and you know..."

"Ehn...ehn...ehn.. I don't know anything. I don't want to agree with what you are saying. I won't let you go. I promise on your parents' grave. I'll never let you go." Darren replied, cutting Claire off.

Giving Darren a goofy laugh, Claire gave him a go-ahead as he typed away on his computer. Seconds turn to minutes as the two friends stare at the laptop. Well, Darren was staring, but Claire had a lot in her mind. She had been thinking about the next step to take to end her life if this doesn't work out.

"What can a dreamcatcher do? Do they even exist? And would they be able to help her?" she thought. She wants to believe, but ever since her parents died, she has been lost in a painful dream, and no sleeping pill could help nor doctors. They all kept saying the same thing, "You need to clear your mind and let go!" but she knew it was more than that. Even her therapist does as well. They both knew that whatever had happened to her after her parents' death was more than an emotional damage, and the more she stayed alive, the more she lost herself. Her mind and her sanity. She has to die... she needs to find peace.

"Heaven to earth, Claire! I have been calling on you for some time now. You've got to stop thinking too much. Please..." Darren said with a pleading face.

Wearing a huge smile, Claire chuckled. "You don't have to worry, I am here. So, what's up?" she asked.

"I found something." Darren replied with a bigger smile while pointing to his laptop. "I found an address, and I just checked it out, and it is real. We have to go." Darren added, standing up from the couch he sat.

"Whoa!!! Calm down, Dar. It is getting late. Let's go tomorrow, okay?" Claire replied, holding Darren's hand.

"No, we have no time to waste. We have found something, let's go. We will make it there before night. Let's move, Claire. I have no time to waste." Darren countered, pulling Claire up.

"You..." Laughing out loud, Claire added. "You are always stubborn."

"Yes, I agree. Pick up your car key and let's move." Darren replied as he walked out the door, urging Claire to move.

Picking up her car key from the kitchen counter, Claire followed Darren to the car. Going into the car, the car was brought to life as Darren directed her to their destination.

Minutes turned to hours as the car moved along the tarred road.

"It is getting dark, Darren. When will we get there? I am getting tired from driving." Claire whined for the umpteenth time.

"We are already there." Darren replied with a frown. "But there's no house here. I don't understand." Darren added.

Taking her hands off the car steering, Claire let out a deep sigh. "Phew! I guess we are lost then." Claire said.

Closing her eyes, she opened the car's door and came down, and so did Darren. "The GPS showed we have gotten to our destination. But, there's nothing here. Just bushes and…emptiness."

Moving forward, a light ahead caught Claire's eyes. "There's a light overhead. Maybe we are not lost after all."

"A light? Where? I can't see anything." Darren replied, confused.

"Stop joking around, Dar. There's a blue light shining over there." Claire replied, pointing to a certain part of the forest.

"I can't see anything. I am serious. I can't see a thing." Darren replied.

Staring at the light, Claire stared at Darren as well. She knows him well to know he isn't joking about this."Just follow me." Claire said, moving toward the blue light.

After walking a few minutes, they came to a small wooden house. "The light is coming from there." Claire said, pointing to the wooden house before walking toward the house.

The moment they both got to the wooden house, the door opened wide for them as they went in.

"Welcome, Claire. I am glad you made it." A cherry voice said. "Take the blue pill in front of you." The voice added as the pill appeared.

Picking up the pill from the floating air, Claire held it, and before she could register what was going on, the pill sucked onto her body and made her float in the air.

"Calm your racing heart, Dream catcher." The voice spoke again.

"Who? What do you..."

"You are the next descendant of the Dream catchers. I am dead, but my spirit stayed alive, waiting for you. I am sorry that you lost your parents in a plane crash. It wasn't your fault. It was their fate," the voice said.

"I know you've been having bad dreams after your parents' death. You were once a happy kid who dreamed of happy things. And, the more happiness you feel, the more your happy self catches good dreams for you. But after their death, you have been sad, and your sad self has been catching horrific dreams. And I know how bad those dreams are that they keep you awake every day. You find it hard to sleep because your dreams hunt you. Your dream has become your predator, and you, its prey. However, today puts an end to your misery." The voice added.

"I don't understand. How am I a descendant? I am just me." Claire replied.

"The spirit of every dream catcher that dies always finds a new vessel to settle in. The spirit of a dream catcher lives in you, and that's why you've been having very vivid, happy dreams." The voice replied.

"So, am I cured? Would I be able to sleep without fear?" Claire asked with teary eyes.

"Yes, you are now free from bad dreams. The blue pill was all you needed to be free. Use your power to help others catch their bad dreams and allow the good ones in. You know how it is to have bad dreams." The voice said before fading away.

Nodding her head in agreement, Claire closed her eyes as happy thoughts filled her in.

This is an interesting outlook on the story. Dream catcher is a human and not an object. That was quite intriguing. Claire is a friend everyone needs. I enjoyed reading this.

I loved this story of dreams turned predators. How many times we have prey, maybe we are missing the blue pill. Best regards @balikis95

A new perspective on the power of the dreamcatcher. After so much suffering Claire will be able to sleep without fear. Her suffering enables her to understand the pain of others and now she has the power to help.
