Cost of living is choking…

Our nation is in shambles. It's a shame that the citizens and the government of the country had embraced everything possible to invest in causing a ruckus in the country. Inflation and many more of these bad vices like corruption, armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, illegal drug trafficking, accidents, and a lot more are now a part of us.

Our country which has been in peace, now became a country where people have to live in fear and agony. We have to live in fear of famine and extreme hunger, prices of goods and services are not worth it anymore. But what could happen to such an amazing country?

The citizens wake up each day and lay curses on their leaders, while the leaders are not ready to render support to the citizens. Both parties never cared for each other’s affairs yet they blame each other for their failure.

I remember sometimes when we were younger, I could say I still met the country in good shape, even though elders of those times were complaining bitterly about the country's situation then, it was still a little better than recent times.

Those times if mum would go to market with some amount on her she would buy a lot of things back home, and all of these things are something that would suffice us up to a month at home without going to the market again. The currency still had a good value then, though I didn’t meet the kobo but the least note of 5 naira then had its value.

Now, if you have 50 naira on you, it's like you don't even have any money. What 5 naira of those days could buy, 50 naira of today can't buy it anymore. The moment when the cost of pure water inflated from 5 naira to 10 naira was when I knew we were the problem in this country.

How can the water we produce in our own country get cost to the extent that it becomes a burden for citizens to buy? It's not that we are importing this water for goodness sake. Another surprising yet disappointing thing about this country is that once the price of goods or services inflates, hardly will you get to see it reduce in price again. There is no price control and regulations from the government so at the end of it all, we blame the government for all we caused upon ourselves out of greediness and selfish interests.

To cut the story short, now that I am older and have experienced the pastimes of the country and also recent times, I could say it's been so hard to even survive in recent times as an adult who is aspiring to start a new life and live fine in this country.

I can't blame all of those who keep planning to leave the country to other parts of the world. They must have felt that's the best option to live a better life trying to battle against the hyperinflation in the country. The mentality of getting to earn in other currencies which has more value against the naira is another way to beat the high cost of things in the country. But I realized that even despite that, they end up in this same country also contributing to the level of inflation.

As for me, I wouldn’t love to see myself stuck up in some other country earning their currency while struggling for survival just to beat the rate of naira, instead, I prefer to find a way to get financially stable here in the country despite the cost of living. I have always wanted to see our naira appreciated and become a citizen who is proud of his country.

This is my response to the hive learners community weekly featured content on Hive for the week 108 edition 3 and the topic to be discussed is WHAT’S YOUR COST OF LIVING?

Well, the issue of increasing cost of home made goods like sachet water is because the producers are also battling with the inflation. If they don't do so, they won't be able to survive the increasing cost of goods.
Example is the fixed salary of workers, they continue to complain because there is need to increase earnings inorder to survive.

I could remember the good old days too my bro. Once upon a time the Nigerian Naira was exactly equivalent to the US Dollars. But now, the economy seems to be in a whole big mess. No wonder we get cases of people wanting to leave the country. Nevertheless, we pray for better days.
