Splinterlands - Social Media Challenge: Key Upgrades

upgrades.jpg

Hello all Splinterlands fans, and welcome back to my blog! It's a Thursday for me and I need to start with the first challenge for this week because it launched two days ago, don't want to be late!

So, when I started my day, draining the battle energy for my two accounts and submitting my brawl battles I didn't have real inspiration what to make today's post about, so I just played some more battles and they're HARD as the competition is very strong, my win rate is at 50% at the moment, most season's I'm just below this when they end which is fine by me... I mean, more winning is always better but it's fun either way and the rewards are great for when I do win, I'm earning anywhere between 4 and 6 SPS for most battles and 400 to 500 glint, yes I definitely need more of both assets!

This weeks Social Media Challenge is the same as last weeks:

How to best spend your glint for this reward set?

First a side topic.. how to best spend glint? And of course this also depends of what kind of player you are, when you earn a million glint every season it's fine to get a bunch of legendary draws but every draw priced at 35k glint for someone who earns 60k in total for a season it's too much and they better skip the legendary's in my opinion.

Some common and rare cards are definitely need to have in certain rule sets so a good dose of common and rare draws are a good choice for every season end.

image.png

For example in ranged only matches, the Mar Toren Trader from level 4 and up, where it picks up the ability Headwinds, reducing the enemy ranged attack by 1 can be a game changer.

image.png

It's the same for the Dark Arborist in magic only matches from level 3 and up to get the Magic Relfect, especially when you team it up with a monster with the Amplify ability.

These cards are pretty easy to come by and don't require a ton of glint, it's a whole different story for the legendary cards in this set!

image.png

With my main account I try to buy one legendary draw each season end, but so far they're quite underwhelming for me, I don't think I ever used Gallicus, and only use the Blackmoor Jinx when I have 1 mana left I can't spend any other way...

image.png

For example Gallicus isn't of any use at level 1, it's taunt will have it killed very fast, at least at level 2 it has the Shield ability so it can shine in no magic battles, archers only or maybe little league battles in certain situations, but it's pretty hard when you're not a top player to get multiple legendary copies to combine and level them up.

Epics it is!

I think many players will agree the real strength in this reward set is in the epic cards so that's where I'm spending most of my glint.
How much I earn varies a lot, it feels like some seasons are easier than others and my glint earnings go up and down because of this varying between 130k and 190k in total and I already got the chance to level most of my epics up to level two or three where they get a lot stronger, for example my Halfling Refugee now has the Self Heal ability, a big difference in low mana battles and my Olivia of the Brook has the Mimic ability which is pretty damn awesome in long battles, you DO HAVE to protect her with a taunt unit to let her live long enough to steal all abilities on the battlefield.
Just last season, my Thanalorion Blade picked up the Execute ability which works very well, it will hit again against a unit with 1 or 2 Health Points left.

To be honest I don't like the two debilitation unit's much, they damage your own team as well so the only time I use them is in the Back to Basics ruleset. 😆

Night Reaper is also a wonderful card I made a post about before, but back them I only owned a level one.
It's now at level three for me where it receives the Reflection Shield ability, making it a card for more rulesets because at low levels, it's mainly strong in magic only battles and of course earthquake battles where it does extra damage to flying units with it's Wingbreak ability.
But now it has Reflection Shield it's protected against Magic Reflect and also a good choice in Explosive battles in the second position to stop the blast damage!

Show us a battle!

What is a Splinterlands post without a battle!? So let's go!

The battle I saved for this post is a fresh one from this morning, real life called so I made this post in two parts, the battle is now 4 hours old.

image.png

This battle was fought in the Modern League (I'm probably doing Modern only until Chaos Legion rotates out) with a 56 mana maximum, only the Earth splinter was locked out so many option are open. The rule sets are Keep Your Distance, meaning only magic and ranged units are allowed and Explosive Weaponry, meaning all units receive the *Blast* ability, doing damage to the adjacent units, so hitting in the middle of the other team is better than hitting the front! With all splinters open I think there's still a decent chance Oshannus will be the enemy tank, he's fast and evasive so I will make a team that targets the units behind the tank... let's build something!

First look at the battlefield:

image.png

Well it's not anything like a team I expected! I recognize the players name, he / she and other members from the same guild fight me almost every day and most of them are quite good! Raise57, Dimaz and Verona I can recall, respect for them!
So the enemy team is build around reflecting magic damage, the martyr will make Void Dragon faster and more evasive while Raa and Chaos Dragon hit in the middle of my team for maximum damage, it's a good plan!

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Quix the Devious - reason: Access to the Dragons, nerf magic damage and slow the other team.
  • First position: Djinn Oshannus - reason: Good damage, Void, Phase, high speed.
  • Second position: Night Reaper - reason: Wing Break, Reflection Shield.
  • Third position: Chaos Dragon - reason: Hit the middle of the other team for maximum damage (it has blast of it's own)
  • Fourth position: Runic Skyclaw - reason: Fast, good damage, sniper for maximum blast damage.
  • Fifth position: Angelic Mandarin - reason: Silence and Triage.
  • Sixth position: Meerdali Guardian - reason: Heal and Repair.

The Battle:

image.png

Round 1: Hmm... this isn't the best start, Night Reaper missed it's attack on Void Dragon and half of my back line is damaged pretty bad while the other team is still all in high HP numbers, except for the martyr that was supposed to die...

image.png

Round 2: Damn... Night Reaper missed again... at least it's doing it's job in stopping the blast damage! 😅 The strong suit in my team is the heal and triage to repair the incoming damage.

image.png

Round 3: Aah here we go! Night Reaper finally hit it's attack and it hits like a truck, killing both Djinn Muirat and Void Dragon, Queen of Crows is now the tank, and he's slow so she missed her attack on OShannus again, my Chaos Dragon and Runic Skyclaw are on the brink of death so hopefully next attacks are not in the middle of my team!

image.png

Round 4: Oh well, the other team didn't even got a chance in firing again, they're all dead! It's a sounding win with my entire team still standing, hooraah!

image.png

Ah nice chunk of SPS crystals and almost 500 glint for the win, on to the next one!

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

Well that's it for this post everyone, thanks for stopping by, I just noticed I have some work to do, my alt's energy is fully restores, on to the battlefield!

To be honest I don't like the two debilitation unit's much, they damage your own team as well so the only time I use them is in the Back to Basics ruleset.

I think the debilitation cards will be good in battles where enrage is ruleset as that debilitation will make them lose a health and will be enraged.

Night Reaper is a nice card with reflection shield and it's very important to have a combo of magic and ranged attack team in keep distance ruleset.

Good battle.

Hmm never thought about the enrage thing, I'll try it out thanks!
