Kung fu as a universal principle - Jet Li's perspective and its real implications.

Kung fu as a universal principle - Jet Li's perspective and its real implications.

When Jet Li explains the real meaning of kung fu, he is not talking about fighting, techniques or performances. He is talking about a fundamental concept in Chinese culture: kung fu as the result of sustained effort. Not as a martial arts style, but as a process of refining a skill through time, discipline and attention.

This idea completely changes the way we look at the term. The moment Jet Li says that kung fu is something that is achieved through practice and dedication, he takes the concept out of the realm of sports and moves it into the realm of human development. It is no longer a technique and it is no longer a category. It simply becomes a principle.

In the traditional sense, kung fu is not about what you do, but how you do it. You can work in a workshop, in an office, in a studio or in a kitchen - it doesn't matter. If you are constantly improving your skills, if you are repeating, adjusting, correcting and evolving, then what you are doing has kung fu.

This is the essence that Jet Li emphasizes:
kung fu is mastery acquired over time, regardless of the field.

Jet Li is not saying that we are all fighters. He is saying that we all have an area in which we can become better through practice. This means that kung fu is present in everyone's life, even if we don't call it that.

In general, every person has something they work on. Every person has a skill that they develop, whether they realize it or not. Every person has an area in which they repeat, adjust, learn, hit their limits and overcome them.

This is kung fu. Not the fight. Not the technique. But the process by which you become better. Jet Li is not redefining the term — he is bringing it back to its authentic meaning. And the authentic meaning is clear: if you work with discipline at something, you practice kung fu.

Kungfu is like daily basis that need to be train of. Doesnt mean that it need to be martial arts only.
But, the paradigm is already embedded that Kung Fu = Martial Arts

Yes,👍😊 the Western paradigm has reduced the term to fights, but essentially kung fu is about practice, discipline, and personal transformation. I'm glad you brought up your grandparents' perspective — it perfectly reinforces Jet Lee idea of kung fu as a universal principle.
