My First Pocket Money and the Lessons It Taught Me

Money is an important part of our lives, and it has a positive impact on our lives and the things we can do. Although I can't really remember the first pocket money I was given, I can vividly remember those that followed, as well as my first earnings. These are funds that I look at with great joy and happiness because of the numerous things I can possibly get from having that amount. So in light of that, I'll be reflecting back in time to when I made my first earning and one of the first pocket money I received, what I did with them, and the lessons I learned from it generally.

One of my earliest memories of getting pocket money comes from my primary school days. Back then I stayed with my grandparents and attended a school where one of my aunts worked as a teacher. So most times when my grandparents give me a transport fee and money for snacks, I still make sure I pay a visit to my aunt in school so she can give me some cash, and on most occasions that's what happens, because she does always give me some cash to hold as pocket money, which makes me excited because it was an answer to my long desire to buy a game that was reigning at that time.

I had wanted that particular game for a long time because my peers also had it, but things went south when I wanted to get my own, given the fact the game was sold for 250 and I was given just 30 as pocket money, so in order to actualize that dream, I decided to save the money with a friend who was older than I am with the hope that once that money is complete, I'll collect it and go buy the game I had always wanted to buy. Unfortunately for me, the person I saved the money with isn't someone to be trusted, because each time I asked for the money I contributed with him, he kept on looking for excuses.

The way that friends of mine acted towards the money I kept with him taught me a great lesson about life, and although I find it painful that my decision not to spend that money on goodies went to waste, because he wasn't able to provide my money back to me, and when I reported him to an adult, he lied that I didn't keep anything with him, saying I've no evidence to back my claims. I had to let go of the money and learned a hard-earned lesson via the experience, one of which is the need not to trust anyone because humans are difficult to trust.

Another thing I learned is that whenever I want to have an agreement with someone, I should make sure there is enough evidence to back up what we agreed on so such a person won't suddenly go back on their words and make me seem like a fool.
