Five Years Later, Hive Still Feels Like Home

Five years ago, I signed up on Hive with no plan of actually staying active for this long but somehow, I've been here and I'm still here. There are so many things I've learned since I joined Hive and it all came from the simple act of just showing up everyday since I joined. One advice I got in my first days here was to learn as I write.

I remember using the first week on Hive to explore and understand how things worked, I didn't realize just how much I had learned in my first year on Hive until it's my fifth year on Hive. I got my "5th Hive birthday" badge from Hivebuzz two days ago, a proof of how long I've been here.

I couldn't write about it but I'm taking this week's prompt as a cue to show my gratitude and also share why I've been here this long even when it could have been possible I had all the reasons not to be here. There's a recent realization that made me see that I could have left Hive by now.

And that is, finding a better opportunity that won't give me much time to be on Hive like I do now. With no need to regret, I only got the opportunity recently but surprisingly, it still isn't an excuse to stop being active on Hive. Instead, I think I will be more active on Hive because of what it is about.

What Keeps Me Here on Hive?

I may have joined Hive for the purpose of writing to earn crypto tokens, as I remember how excited I was after Hive rewards was explained to me. That was a good enough reason to start sharing my contents on Hive and it is still a reason but these days when the post rewards are so low, I don't think I'm here for just the rewards anymore.

I'll be sharing some other reasons that I'm still here on Hive and I'm hoping this list will continue to grow so long the platform is accessible to me.

  • I'm here to continue my love for writing, I think I'm addicted to just writing my thoughts especially on reflective or thoughtful prompts.

  • I'm here for the connections have built so far, I'm still surprised I have so many friends that I gained from spending my time here on Hive.

  • I'm here for the awesomeness of having a blog space that belongs to just my name even though it is on a decentralized platform.

  • I'm also here for the opportunities to have fun, for the random rewards and for the consistency spirit it keeps in me for streaks.

There are more reasons I can't think of but I know I have good enough reasons to be here and I plan to be here for as long as I can even when bigger opportunities come my way. I can only reduce the time I spend here but saying goodbye to Hive, no!

It's good to see you found reasons to be on Hive even when the opportunity that could take you away from it came. You shared wonderful reasons for still being here on Hive; learning, friendship, owning your space and all that.
