TEACHING THE NEW COMERS

Hive is not easy for a lot of people to understand, especially when it's their first time entering the web3 space. Even those who are familiar with the web3 space might still find certain things complex. Although I will have to point out that hive is easier to understand now than it was a year ago. A lot of the frontends are doing everything to make their user interface and user experience easier. A lot of the people who found hive on their own can easily understand it because most of them are already highly technically inclined with the web3 space. Those who find it difficult are some of our neighbours, friends, siblings, colleagues etc… who might have never discovered hive on their own if we did not tell them about it.

At a point a lot of these people get fed up by the complexity because they do not have the patience and understanding to become familiar with the Blockchain. The very first time I got to know about web 3, it was from my boss who introduced me to steemit. Everything he said then felt vague because I could almost understand nothing. You know I decided to look at the steemit account my boss created for me in 2019 and I realized the account was really easy to use, it was only complex for me because I was still getting familiar with the web 3 space. I never even got to use the steemit account because I never understood a thing then. In 2021, my friend onboarded me on hive, I guess it was just fate that I found hive through her. I would have also given up again because it was also complex. The only thing that kept me then was the determination to succeed in something.

This shows that no matter how good a teacher can be, every new user will get fed up without the strong will to succeed on hive. This is why before I onboard people, I look for those with the will to succeed as they are the easiest to teach. Next, I look for skills. Let's be honest, DIY is one of the things curators look out for. Those with skills will find it easier. Those who are not camera shy will have an added advantage. But if you do not have these skills, one thing I always advise is learn to write very well, engage like your life depends on it. You will need to be an active member of some communities you have interest in. This was the part I followed and it's been four years, but I will say the journey has been going well. Consistency is the key at this point.
