Although I try not to overspend, I have discovered that money tends to always be in use because there are always things that require it. It was very hard for me at first, I tried so much try manage the situation, but almost everything seemed important and required money, perhaps I was not making enough I thought, but after casually speaking with my MD about money and savings, I got to understand that even though I wasn’t making enough, I was not also managing enough and it rendered me broke. The idea is discipline, make a decision and stick to it.

My boss said one thing that helps him is that he takes saving as a project, as though the money is needed for something and since he knows that money is already going for something it changed the way he looked at the money. Taking this to note, I realized that although I was always having to spend on important things, things are only as important as we make them. We feel we need to eat so we spend on food, we feel we do not have clothes so we spend on that, I started feeling the need to save and decided to take it up as a project.
I am always having a goal, something to look forward to, and because of that, some things that used to seem important are now not so important because in comparison to my goal, I knew they had to go. This helped me create a savings plan, removing money for only important things, food, transportation, and utilities. If I have extra I put in something else, but I make sure these three are duly sorted as they will keep my daily life afloat. It takes a lot of discipline by the way, but I know if I touch any money I put aside, I will have to pay for it eventually and what happens if it is time to pay and I do not have. The thought of this alone makes me want to be disciplined.
