Be Grateful for Your Loss

Be Grateful for Your Loss - A true life story

The morning started like every other day in Lagos.
She woke up early, before 5 a.m.
Her alarm rang loud like NEPA just brought light.

Today was not an ordinary day—
She had a big appointment,
Final interview to become a CEO in one big bank.

She dressed well—fine native wear,
Her bag neat, her file packed with all her documents.
Even her perfume was talking.
She prayed, “God, please let today be the day.”
She entered her car and zoomed out,
Headed straight to the express, hoping to beat traffic.

But Lagos had another plan.
Just as she got to the express,
The car coughed once...
Then again... and stopped.
Engine off. Silence.
No mechanic in sight. No vulcanizer. Nothing.

She looked around—no okada,
No keke, not even a good Samaritan.
Just noise from danfos zooming past,
And some agberos dragging people at the bus stop.

She tried calling a friend—no network.
She waited, begged, even tried stopping a bike.
But none stopped for her.
Time passed... slowly... painfully.

Before she knew it, interview time don pass.
She broke down in tears.
She thought, “God, why today? Why me?”
She felt like a failure.
She had tried her best—did everything right.
Now, everything just fell apart.

She got home tired, confused, and broken.
She didn’t eat. She didn’t talk.
She just lay on her bed,
Thinking the biggest chance of her life was gone.

But later that evening, around 7 p.m.,
She heard something on the news.
Armed robbers had attacked that same bank.
Same time, same day.
Almost all the board members and staff were killed.

She sat up. Her heart skipped.
She couldn’t speak for minutes.
She just covered her mouth and cried.
But this time, it was tears of thanks.

She thought she lost something big,
But God was saving her from something worse.
If that car had not broken down,
She would have been there... inside that bank.

From that day, she learned something strong:
Not all losses are bad.
Sometimes, what we call “delay”
Is just God protecting us.

So my dear,
Next time something you want doesn’t happen,
Don’t cry too long.
Don't blame yourself.

Just say,
“God, I may not understand now,
But I trust that you are doing something better for me.”

Sometimes, that disappointment
Is just your safety in disguise.
So, always be thankful—
Even for your loss
