Habits and lack of information is our major challenge when it comes to conserving the natural resources we are blessed with as humans. Over time we’ve grew so use to doing the wrong things to the extent that when we are told that what we’ve known all our life is wrong, it becomes a big problem because as they say, “old habits die hard”.
Our environment and the natural resources in it keeps crying out daily for help but too bad we’ve gone too far in its destruction that we can hardly hear it cry out in so much anguish. I know it can be hard to change some of these habits we’ve formed over the years but then, with intentional efforts towards change, I believe we can still get to hear the cry of nature, pause and then turn back to saving it.
Growing up, especially in a country as mine, it is very normal for us to always package whatever we buy, far or near. Most parents don’t like it when you expose what you get from the market no matter how small it is, you have to put it in a plastic bag or something that covers it properly. Over the years, as children, we’ve grown up to see that as a norm but now thanks to information, we’ve come to understand that too much plastic causes harm to our environment because they are non-degradable materials.
One way we can help our environment is by always remembering to carry our own plastic bags to the market so we don’t have to keep bringing new ones home and just throwing them away even when they are still okay. This practice as simple as it is, can save our environment even faster than we think. When we want to buy any thing from the market, it is best to always go for something that can be reused or recycled and this will not only save the environment but also help you to be more cost efficient.
Beside our plastics that can be reduced to help our environment, one other habit that can help us conserve natural resources is using bulbs and other electrical appliances that are less consuming of electricity. I know some people can’t do without power but then, we can make more conscious efforts towards saving energy by using less of electricity especially when it comes to our appliances at home. We can do well to turn them off when we are not going to make use of them for a long time and as for our light bulbs, we can put them off during the day since everywhere is still bright except we live under a tree, hehe.
Something else that we can do to help, is being more conscious of water consumption. Most times it has to take less availability of water for us to start conserving water but then it shouldn’t be so. There are so many ways we can conserve water. Most people are already use to dripping taps and this is one way that we misuse water. It is always good that our taps are in healthy conditions and also we should always make conscious efforts to repairing leakages and breaks so as to avoid wastage.
As simple as these things are, they are hard to implement because we are already use to doing it the other way. But I’d love to encourage us to just make conscious efforts to getting it right and save our natural resources in our environments while we are at it. Nothing good comes easy but trust me, life will be a lot better if we can manage the resources we’ve been blessed with.
This is my response to the #iucontest theme on ways we can conserve our natural resources in our environments. I hope we won’t only be readers of these tips but also people that will try to implement them as well.

Thank you for using ECENCY
Thank you so much 😊
Reducing the amount of plastic that hits our streets is one way to help keep our environment safe.
That’s right 😊. It is how Nigerians especially likes nylon for every little thing we buy 🤣
Our environment provides us with countless blessings, yet we often take them for granted. Instead of showing gratitude, we harm the very source of our well-being. As you mentioned, there are simple ways we can keep our environment alive such as conserving water, cleaning the oceans and the others ones you mentioned. These small steps may seem insignificant, but they go a long way.
Also, people shouldn’t wait for Government or non-governmental organizations before they start helping the planet. The change starts with you.
Thanks for sharing.
Those consistent small steps are what we need to heal our land, we don’t have to get it right all at once 😌.
Thank you so much for your contribution Favie, it’s always a pleasure having you stop by 🥰
