Quest for financial liberty: my first earnings story

(edited)

The feeling was like that of a mini god the first time I received my earnings. Lolz! 😅 Ladies and gentlemen, if not for anything I would have contested for the presidentship election with that money. 😅 Well that is just me exaggerating things but the feelings were genuine.

I clearly remember my first earning like the back of my hand. I had just finished high school and at that time my parents had registered me in a tailoring shop to learn a skill. I was very much interested in learning that particular skill because it was my dream to be in the fashion industry but after some months I regretted registering in that particular shop. For my peace of mind, I stopped not just me but about three of my colleagues also left for that same reason so yeah I wasn't the issue. A few weeks after staying at home I became so bored. 🥱 That was when I decided to go look for a job. Well my uncle helped me secure a spot in his place of work.

I had no idea of the work when I first started but with a few days of training I became a pro. luckily for me two weeks after I started work, the month ended and the organization was kind enough to pay me my complete salary along with other staff. Like I said earlier, I felt like a mini god when I collected my pay. I was busy thinking what I should use the money to do because prior to when I started working I had little need to meet because my parents were fully responsible for my upkeep. After all the thinking, this was how I finally used my 12k salary. 😅 Ohh! What were you expecting? Okay, you were hoping I'll say my pay was 100k....na, I was that pump attendance you will love to buy fuel from. 🥰 So back to how I splitted the money, I gave my mom 4k, I sent 3k to my elder brother in school, paid my tithe of 1,200, saved 2k and used the balance for my other expenses. I split my money the way I did because I wanted my family to enjoy it first before the needs and numerous wants start popping up. And because of the nature of my job, normally I don't use my salary for transportation and feeding. I get tips most of the time and only on rare occasions I am without cash.

Today I am grateful because earning from an early age has taught me how to save well and that was where I learnt my four rules of being in control of money. I learned how to be contented because just within the space of three months working, that same amount I was happy about became so little to me. I saw what my mates were doing but with God's help, I guided my heart and learned to be content.
