That Favourite Food

One of the beauties of life is food, and one of the gifts in life is the ability to eat food and also the privilege to eat good food. Observation in life has shown me that some subjects or topics tend to spark conversation, even without direct words. One of these is food. This is part of the reason why I mentioned it as one of the beauties of life. I mean, who doesn't eat food, and who wouldn't want to eat some hot good food? Hah!

Culturally and regionally, depending on where we come from, different foods hold different significance among a people. In my country, food makes up a huge part of culture, which I believe is so with other countries or parts of the world. In cultural events or those that which has to do with culture, it takes a major stage, as well as the other elements of culture. Even with marriage, there are cultural foods that must be served in that traditional marriage.

There are foods I enjoy eating. These are the kind of foods I look forward to cooking or seeing them being cooked at home. Maybe it's because of what we had available, but I know I do enjoy some foods over others. I remember how a typical child around here, in this part of the world always fancied rice as our best food. It meant joy to eat rice, and that's why we fashioned the idea of Sunday rice, as we ate the best rice on that day.

Today, it's not like that with me, or many people I presume. I do enjoy me some good food, and in no particular order, one of my favourite foods is beans. I don't know how I came to like this food such that whenever it was being cooked or when I would do the cooking, I'm anticipating when it would get into my mouth and down. my stomach. What I mean is pure, all beans. Maybe what makes it more like that for me is because this isn't a regularly cooked food.

Then there's another one in swallow with egusi soup, topping it off with some nice goat meat. This also, I can't tell how it turned out to be a meal I like and anticipated when it's cooked or when I'm going to eat it. But I know I enjoy dipping that swallow into the egusi soup, having it slide down my throat and following with a bite of the beef. I don't think there are any memories associated with these meals for me. Just an enjoyable preference.

I enjoyed reading this! Food really is one of those topics that can bring people together no matter where they come from. I could relate to what you said about looking forward to certain meals being cooked at home. Sometimes it's not even about special memories, some foods just have a way of making us happy. Your description of beans made me hungry! 😋
