Scope document used to take months about 10 years back

AI is amazing, and we definitely have stories to tell our next generation. I'm lucky to be in a generation that has seen the transition of computers, the transition of mobile phones, and AI being a reality. This will be a good story for our future generation, as they are born with all the sophistication in today's world. I wouldn't say that they will be the ones with no challenges to face, but their type of challenges in this world will be different ones compared to what they used to be.

Recently, I have been working on a project for which I'm preparing the scope document along with the client. When I used to work on projects about 10 years back, preparing the scope document was an activity that took about 3 months to complete. Today, if we sit with a client for 3 days, we can finalize the document. Even in some cases, the client itself can complete it without needing a technical consultation. Business Analysts used to do this activity of preparing the document. But these days, they still do it with the clients, but their roles and responsibilities have become different, and compiling a scope document is not a big deal at all.

AI plays a very important role in scoping

Today, AI can project the requirement in any format we ask for. Based on the type of the project, the format differs, but AI is able to do an amazing job. In my recent scoping experience, I only spent a very small time with the AI, and it was able to give me a neat document. I just forwarded the document to the client and asked them to make use of the AI to make any changes if they want, and they were happy to do it. The final document that we got was amazing.

The interesting part is that AI is also able to give us the timeline chart and an item-by-item checklist. Based on the overall requirements, AI is able to create user stories for us to track and manage. At the same time, AI is also able to provide the database schema and technology stack suggestions based on the requirement. If we select the right AI, we will also be able to complete the project within a few days with the help of AI agents. I think that is how the future is going to be with development. If non-technical people can give the right prompts to AI, we will be able to get complete project code from the AI in our desired language. We have to evolve with AI in the world to survive. Many IT jobs will become redundant if we don't do it.
