Proper disposal of plastic waste

(edited)

Proper disposal of plastic waste is always a problem. I would argue that we shouldn't be using plastics at all in the first place. But it can take a lot of time to move away from plastics for many people. I have written so many awareness articles regarding plastics and why we should avoid using them. I think it is important that we are responsible and transfer the knowledge to our kids and next generation. Today we have so many use cases for plastic management and many countries have started reducing the usage of plastics and are going back to organic alternatives. This is the most important thing. Wherever we can reduce the usage of plastics, I think we should go for it.

Plastic goes to drainage holes

Plastic materials take several years to decompose and they can get stuck in many places. The most common place where plastics play a very tough role is when it clogs the drainage holes. In many places where there is no proper waste management, plastic becomes a huge problem because people dispose of it on the road and it goes and fills the drainage holes, becoming a major issue during the rainy season.

Microplastics

Microplastics are very dangerous and today's research says that they are everywhere. Starting from the ocean to plants to humans etc. They are everywhere and the food we eat also has plastic, and we don't know much about it. It has also become very hard to live in an environment where there is no microplastics. Air pollution is a big problem but at least some of the polluting factors are visible to our eyes; microplastics are not visible to our eyes and they do a lot of harm.

Awareness to kids

Preparing the next generation is the most important thing here. It is hard to discipline the old people. Some people are used to plastics and they find it very comfortable. But if an alternative is thought to the younger generation and if it is brought from there, it can make a lot of difference to society. At least the next generation can be a little more careful.

Alternatives to plastics

There are so many alternatives available today, and they are also becoming affordable. Governments should take strong initiatives on this but people should also be self-aware about this and try to find alternatives wherever they can. Today we have wood-based products and other bioplastics materials available that have the same properties as plastics, but they disappear or decompose in just one month or 3 months maximum. We should start using such alternatives.

Here where I live lots of plastic is collected to be recycled. The so called PMD. Plastics, metals and drinkcartons. Each 2weeks they pick up the blue bags placed outside the houses. This way this isn’t thrown in the garbage bins and becomes just waste, but gets a second life.
