People fear climate change

In the past few weeks, I have been seeing a lot of discussions happening everywhere about climate change. It is not the weather change that I'm talking about, but the climate change. We had a huge outage in my workplace because of the heat waves in European countries. Not just us, but I think many people who were using that data center were affected. The cooling system had gone down, creating this problem. Our business had a huge impact because of this. We ended up working extra hours to fix some issues during the DR switch.

We might have seen some fancy videos online where people try to make an omelet on the road surface, and when someone was walking, their slippers started to melt. This is not AI, but it is real in some places. There have been a few deaths as well reported because of the heat waves. Too much deforestation has caused this issue gradually, and this is surfacing now. The equilibrium is affected, and there is a tilt happening. In some places, the huge icebergs are melting, and in other places, there is extreme cold, and new cold terrain is being formed.

Some experts who don't believe in Global warming say that this is just a natural thing, and another set of people who do believe in Global warming say that it is all because of human activity. I think that humans play a very important role in this, and in many places, the fear is ongoing. In one of the discussions, someone said that the heat waves and drought can be there for another 10 years. This year itself we are having a prolongated Summer where the Summer heat has lasted till now. If this is going to continue for years, I cannot imagine how we will be able to survive this.

There are also campaigns going on to plant more trees. Some initiatives are directly coming from the government, and some initiatives are being brought by social awareness and ecology protectors. Either way, I love trees, and I would say that no matter whether it is affecting the climate or not, I would say that we should keep planting more trees to keep our planet cool.

Desert zones are appearing also in my country and the only way to fight them is by planting trees. Lately there are storms with ice rain, thus I think something has gotten worse with the weather in time. I believe in science, so there must be something behind it all, we would just need to open our eyes and act.

In my opinion our impact on climate is overstated. The earth has had multiple hot periods and ice ages long before humans made the first fire. The Clausius-Clapeyron Relation also states that for every 1 C increase in temperature, the atmosphere can hold 7X more moisture. What is likely to happen is that arid regions would become drier and wet regions would become wetter due to increased rain.

Most civil engineering has focused on draining water away. Much of our rain water gets wastefully drained away rather than captured and being put to use. This is changing. At least where I live, cities are starting to build water catchment areas and requiring new construction to include catchment in their green areas. There has also been some success in arid areas with the construction of swales and check dams to slow water from running off. The idea is to slow down the water enough so that it has time to soak into the soil to hydrate the earth and eventually recharge aquifers.

In short, we are adapting to better manage rain water, which would become more important if global warming continues. The additional rain from warming can be a net benefit if we change what we do with it.
