India is one of the rapidly developing nations in the world and especially in the last decade the development is amazing. Good thing about the growth is that it is trying to keep up with other nations in the world and maintaining the standards followed in other countries. We still have a lot of growth opportunities but it is very close to become a developed nation. In the recent years the energy sector has seen a great development. We have already started looking at alternative green source of energy and solar panels play a very important role in that.
Many people have started discussing about implementing solar power in their house. Some people have already implemented it and they are very happy about it because solar saves a lot of money we spend on energy. The government has provided schemes for people who are installing on-grid solar panels. There is also a central government subsidy available if we do the setup in our house. There are a few criteria that needs to be met but it is definitely an advantage to the consumers.
Earlier we used to buy the solar panels from other countries but now India is making its own solar panels and there are many companies manufacturing it internally with the help of Make in India initiative. The cost has gone down drastically. Also in terms of technology there have been so many advancements and that has also reduced the cost by so much already.

I have been thinking about setting it up in my house. I currently have a need to setup a cover for my car parking. It is costing about 1.5 lakhs and if I go for a solar panel setup, it is costing me only about 2.5 lakhs which serves two purpose at once. I don't know the feasibility though so I wanted to explore and see if this is a good option to go for. There are two types of implementation namely on-grid and off-grid. People who are already using the Tamil Nadu government electricity can go for on-grid and send the power that is generated to the grid and get some credits for that. During the night time when generation is not happening, the credits saved can be used to get power from the grid.
The other option is to go for off-grid solution where the energy generated is stored in batteries and reused. But this method is very costly and is also not an efficient solution. So everyone is going for the on-grid solution. They say that in the future the cost of having solar panels setup in the roof top will become even cheaper where people can buy them at the price of window glasses or even cheaper than that.
