AI dependency even for a small change in the code
It has been a while since I sat down to do some actual coding. This is something that I have been thinking about a lot recently. I think I can say that it's been several months since I touched the code and wrote some lines of code. Everything is being taken care of by AI. Even for a small change in the code, I'm dependent on AI. I'm not sure about others, but this has been the reality for me. I have been jumping from one AI subscription to another, but I stopped writing code manually. Even in my work environment, we have AI-assisted coding capabilities, and this makes me write no code.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. But one thing that I can say for sure is that I review the code created by AI and I make sure it is production-ready. That is where my skill is getting updated. Sometimes the code written by AI is crap, and sometimes AI amazes me with the code that it provides me, wherein it thinks of scenarios which normally I would have missed. That's something where I learn from AI. The journey is going on like this for a while now. I don't know what will happen after 6 months or maybe 1 year. Some of my friends say that they don't even look at the code they create. The reviewing part is also taken care of by AI, and it is amazing.
I also realized that I'm doing that for any new projects that I'm creating. For all the existing projects, since I wrote the code by myself, I make sure the code that AI updates is intact and good while coexisting with my code. So I'm very careful when it comes to existing projects. In new projects, the entire code is usually written by the AI itself. So I don't care much about the code, but I do ensure with AI that it is good and intact, with better quality.
I'm guessing this is how it will be in the future, and the new grads who are coming out of college will have greater exposure, and they will be able to do amazing things with AI. But the demand for proper engineers will not reduce. Even today, people are needed for C++ and C, and even binary, and it is being used by applications. So I think everything will reach another balance.

One example from a company is that they wrapped up a web interface to use with AI and behind that it is their entire codebase and all the apps. The developers are just interacting with the web interface and AI agents are doing everything under the hood. They are using LOOPS in order to have greater confidence in what's done, but they are 200% into AI and the results are quite good so far. They still do code review when committing, but the rule is to push AI to the max.
