On a good note

Well, there's been some positive news in our quest to relocate and the story is that the transfer from the bank that we feared would take two weeks has gone in much shorter time. So, in summary, our transfer went through and we have scheduled our flight to the UK.

The price of flights have rapidly risen in recent months due to internal turmoil and our exchange rate. If we were actually getting very technical about it, the price of flights haven't exactly gone up as much in dollars but in Naira, it's a brutal realization.

In the past, we had two different exchange rates and the flight prices used to be based on the exchange rate that was regulated and subsidized by the central bank. Today, we don't have that anymore and it's showing in the price.

To give you an idea of how much the prices have risen, the amount I'm paying for tickets is almost twice the amount a friend of mine paid for the same ticket in January. This remarkable rise doesn't seem to be stopping, by the way, with prices expected to surge higher in the coming weeks.

Getting set

Our flight is all the way in August but frankly speaking, we're all set to leave right now. So, until then, we're sorting out a couple of things that need to be done to make our adjustment to our new location easier.

One of the things we need to do is sell our stuff in the house and that's been moving a bit slower than I hoped. There's a lot of interest but people haven't exactly been paying for the stuff.

I guess a big part of this is my subtle hesitation to sell some of the stuff I've grown attached to. One of which is my car that recently gave me a scare.

Another thing we have to do is to sort out some paper work. I've been talking to people there and they've given me an idea about certain documents I need to have available to enable me get a job easily.

I must admit, I haven't fully committed to selling our stuff but all of that changes today. I'll start marketing them in social media and put their pictures on a website where people sell second hand goods.

Sorry about the effects of unifying dollar rates, paying double the amount must be scary to consider. Then being reluctant to sell some stuffs does not make sense. Its better to do it that you have time, otherwise it will become rushy closer to.your departure. I wish you all the best in your travel plans.

I’m glad that the flight is now secured! One more step man, and selling the things is bittersweet for sure. I’ve got a few things of mine that I can’t get rid of despite my wife wanting me to. I don’t have a lot of memories from when I was younger so I keep the small number of things that help me remember what it was like being a kid.
