Medieval market in the fog - a visit to "Burgruine Aggstein"

(edited)

Hello photography lovers

Conditions for photography where not that nice today, it was a damp cold foggy November day. It was forecast, that the fog would disappear in the afternoon but it chose to stay the whole day. The 3-8 degrees where rather close to 3 and that wore on my batteries. I constantly kept the batteries on a rotation warming one in my pocket while shooting with the other. I switched back to the 35mm lens so I could get autofucus but that turned out to be a disaster. Well shit happens.
I also seem to have used vertical mode only today. That looks awful in a blogpost but hey Sometimes a frame is chosen...

We visited the ruins of Aggstein Castle which I pinned for you on Worldmappin.com (you can get a code there to pin your own posts to the world map.)

We drove about an hour from Vienna and parked at the designated parking area at the bottom of the castle hill. From there we where taken on a curvy ride with buses that dropped us off at the castle entrance. Some people thought it is a good idea to walk up the hill but I was happy to take the shuttle. These buses went up and down every 10 minutes so I guess it was not that enjoyable to walk up the narrow street while buses drive next to you all the time. There where 3 Shuttles in rotation carrying about 60 passangers each. It was quite busy in the afterenoon but at noon when we arrived it was still ok. And since the area is quite big and a lot of things are happening the crowd spreads out fairly well.

These images are in chronological order but there is a bunch of trash I produced inbetween that did not make it into the photowalk. Overall my performance was not so good today. I can't seem to find a shot I really like. But there are days like these, my hands and joints hurt more when it gets cold and wet, so I will just blame it on that.

Upcyled Scrap Metal Witch, If I had a garden I totally would put her in a corner.
The towns guard was following me on the way up. This shot is from about 10m and you even can see the fog between us.

Later I found the same guy with his friends and they looked really cool together. Unfortunately this is overexposed a great deal. I was on full manual and was in a darker spot before.

I saw a really tall viking! He was eating a hamburger. Unfortunately couldn't get a shot from the front.

Usually I write a bit of the castles history in my post, but today you will have to accept this map and a link to some alpha about the Aggstein castle ruins.

The freakin fog was swallowing everything. If you checked out the website https://www.ruineaggstein.at/en/ you could see how the surroundings look. Seriously! Go there and take the 360ยฐ tour and take a walk in the castle when there is no milk around it.

The only horizontal image that made it in the selection. Fogging around...

Stairs and rock in fog.

Castle wall a bit of forest and fog.

And some interior of the great hall.

Thanks for bearing with my foggy blog. I hope you found value in my post and enjoyed the little walk through Aggstein Castle. Thank you all for your support and a special thanks to those who say something underneath my posts. Evry one of your comments is appreciated.
Thanks for reading!
Cheers, Solymi

Wow!! This is such a market!! I love it! Nothing compare to Ibizaโ€™s one, even though it was very good as well! But the fog makes such an experience!

It had indeed a very mystical flair, I can imagine the one on Ibiza being a bit less cold.

Ooooh, the pics aren't that bad, come on. I like almost all of the foggy photos, they're maybe a little over-exposed but fog is difficult and if you shot manual and you don't do any post processing - good job on these pics!

These two are my favorites

Okay I might have been a bit harsh with myself. Thank you, I am glad you like the fogginess!
