This week, the subject of the @qurator's photo quest is Negative space.
Negative space is a composition technique that is about creating an empty or quiet area around the main subject you photograph. It can make a subject really stand out.
As they say: Less is more!
My first photo (and my submission for the contest) is a black and white image of a small, empty pier at a nearby lake. You might recognize it since I also have it as my profile banner image in Hive. I remember it was a very misty day when I took this shot and I just loved the fact that you couldn't see the horizon. The water seems to merge into the sky.

The gargoyle in the second photo was on a church in France. I'm always intrigued by gargoyles and this one was nicely surrounded by a blue sky, which made it stand out perfectly.
It would be even better when it would have squirted some water, but I don't think I would have had a blue sky then 😀

A single drop of water normally isn't very interesting, but when I isolated this one hanging from the tip of a leaf it became an interesting shot I think. .

Usually the beach is full of shells, but sometimes you spot a single seashell lying on the beach. Because it is surrounded by the empty sand, this simple subject does become more interesting I think. The simplicity of the scene draws attention to the shell.

I hope you like the selection I made for the contest.
Let me know what you think about them in the comments.

An excellent selection of photographs that highlight the negative space in the images. My favorite is the first one; it's very well composed.
I think you picked and took some elegant and delightful photos!
Thanks!

Thanks, but I don't consider myself a pro. The nice thing about making a lot of photos is that you often have a lot to choose from for contests like this.
