At random moments, in my day, I like to reflect on what items have made an impact in my day, and which ones only served to occupy space. While this act makes declutterring easier, it also helps me know what exactly I’d need, if I ever got the chance to spend a day, owning a maximum of 10 possessions.

For my ideal minimalist day, the first thing I’d need, would be my Bible. Even if it isn’t the first thing I touch at the break of dawn, I rely on it at different intervals during my day. Using my Bible, brings me the peace and quiet time i need. It gives me space away from the raging world, and it’s always an opportunity to just let The Word dictate the flow of my thoughts. So, first thing I’d be grabbing, would be my Bible.
The next thing however, would be a bed or a couch. The mere thought of going about my day, and coming back, to a home without both, has me mortified. If I ever find myself in such a situation, one of the moments i usually look forward to, in a day, might just have been cut short. No matter where I am, or how invested I am elsewhere, I tend to look forward to time spent in my bed. Moments where I’m fully immersed in its softness, and all my worries seem to be forgotten. My bed is my favourite place in my home, so yes, I can’t do without it.
Third item I’d need, is a blanket. I can’t sleep or relax properly, without a blanket draped over my legs. And to be able to curl up comfortably on my couch, bed or whatever, after a stressful day, I’d need my blanket. That’ll be my third possession of the day.

To go about the rest of my day, I’d need a shirt, and a trouser, a pair of sandals, a note and a pen to jot down every necessary detail in my day. I’d also go along with a bottle of water, as hydration is essential when going about my daily duties. To avoid distractions every-time I get thirsty, I love to have water with me most of the time. It keeps me refreshed, without having to leave where I am, in search of water. With my bottle, I could always get it right then and there.
Writing this, I pondered, and realized that although, my phone is something I spend quite a lot of time on, it’s still something I could do without. It’s one item i could take time away from, and still have a wholesome day. It took me losing my phone for three days, to realize this. And so, even on days where I find it hard to let go of my phone, I continue with life, knowing that when the situations call for it, I’d do just fine without it.

All these items I’ve mentioned above, are things I can’t do without on a daily basis. They aren’t up to 10, I know. And that because the prompt is about items i rely heavily on, that cannot be easily replaced. After pondering, these were all I could come up with, so why not?
At this point, the part of me that is used to being distracted, tells me that a day spent with all these items might end up being my most boring day ever, but I actually do not mind. I’d always choose a peaceful boring day, over having to run helter-skelter, trying to fit into the chaos that characterizes most of the days I have no control over.
