What My Day Looks Like With Only What Matters

(edited)

Since late last year, something has changed in me. I've become more intentional about my days. Then sometime last month, that intention shaped into clarity that made me began to see the things I need and the things I don’t. There’s this saying I learned, that "When there is clarity on what you want and where you’re going, you begin to see what you don’t need for that realization." That sentence feels like a summary of my life recently.

So the prompt made me imagine this: If I could live a full day with just ten possessions, and they have to be only what truly supports my goals and my values, what would my day look like? Here’s a present story of my day shaped by just 10 simple things that are helping me towards my goals.

My Day With Just 10 Possessions.

My day begins with an "Alarm", I set them with purpose to build habits. Each alarm is a reminder in case I drift. So when the alarm sounds, I wake up and stay on my "Bed" unlike before when I'd reach for my phone first. Instead, I lie still with my eyes either open and fixed on the window closed to imagine how my day will go. I picture my day's work and my focus calmly. This moment on my bed is where my day is shaped before it begins. Then I reach for my "Phone" to check in with myself using my phone's journal where I write about how yesterday went and how today should go. I explain things to myself there, my intentions and my adjustments. Still on my bed, I then open my "Bible", read a passage, or sometimes more than one and I say my prayers blessing my day.

When I finally get up, I pick up my "Broom". I make sure everything is arranged and in it's rightful place as a tidy space reflects the order I’m trying to build within myself. From my exercise time till night, I drink water from my Watercan reminding me that consistency matters more than complexity. Since I’m mostly at home, I wear "Light clothing" just for the comfortability. Comfort helps me stay present, it's day about function, not appearance. Most of my afternoon is spent on my "Laptop" and my "Pillow". This is where I work, learn and keep building. As the day winds down and it’s time to retire to bed, I reach for my physical "Journal". This is different from the one on my phone. Here, I slow down and write how I feel about the day, what I achieved, what didn’t go as planned and what I want to do better tomorrow. The day ends the way it began.

My Gains and What Surprised Me.

I gain "Clarity" as I don’t need much to keep my goals going. With fewer distractions and fewer possessions competing for my attention, I have more "Time" to focus on what truly matters. I gain "Presence" as I control the things I can control, and it keeps me rooted in the moment. "Gratitude" is also a gain because when excess are no more, thankfulness comes naturally. What surprises me most is that I don’t feel deprived but unburdened. And in such lightness, peace wouldn't need to be chased, it arrives on it's own.
