LIKE A PHONE ON LOW BATTERY ALERT

This would be my first time ever thinking of a metaphor that best describes the simplicity of my recharging routine as a minimalist. Usually, I just focus on the things I do when I feel overwhelmed or underwhelmed and I feel like I’m running low with even being used or being over used. Never really thought of using a metaphor to illustrate the situation. I’m glad I’m doing this now. It will help me narrow it all to just a phrase and I find that really cool. But, before I go on to share with us what the metaphor is, I have a little story to tell.

As a minimalist, I have a lot of things I engage in that seem to drain me so quickly. I struggle most of the time to keep up with everything around me but thanks to some of the ideas I have learnt from some of the topics I have written here, I have been able to overcome most of them but then, I still get to that point when I just feel even tired to do the things that I should do to get over a certain level. And now that I think about it, the best metaphor that describes the simplicity of how I tend to recharge is like a phone on low battery alert.

It’s not surprising that my phone and I seem to share some things in common. It’s mine after all. I remember when I got my phone, it has a battery life of 83%. At that time, I didn’t even know what that meant because it was my first time using an iPhone. It’s already over 1 year and since then, I have been using my phone a lot. It gets so hot on days when I even hardly drop it down to do other things. At that point, I’m left with no choice but to take off my phone’s pouch and drop it on the floor to let it cool as I let it charge.

At that point, that’s what I’d say illustrates the simplicity of how I recharge. Life will always seem to be so busy and we are scared that if we take a break we might miss out on something and because of that fear we tend to just keep going even when deep down we wish we can just take a break to refill ourselves and allow things cool down. As long as we keep denying ourselves of the rest to recharge, it gets to that point when we start feeling numb and completely exhausted and we have no other choice but to take off everything that burdens us and allow ourselves get recharged.

It is only until then I realize just how easy it is to allow myself recharge and cool down. At that point when I recharge, life still goes on and nothing else really matters. All I do at that point is focus on getting recharged and come back stronger and better. It works all the time but sadly it takes me some time to realize when I should shut all the noise off. One important thing I realize when I’m recharging is that I don’t feel bothered by the noise anymore because I’m focused on getting myself back just like my phone on the ground trying to cool down and recharge.

Thank you for stopping by. ❤️

I can relate. My phone's getting a bit old and has started getting really heated lately. I always take it as a good physical reminder to stop. Often works better than a purely mental reminder that maybe I'm on it a bit much. It's the world quite literally saying girl, chill. :D

Yes. Yes. The way your phone just be like “okay, you don’t want to let me rest, yeah? No problem” and then it starts acting autonomously, lol. That’s exactly what our bodies do too and it’s a great time for a recharge.

Do you have plans of changing your phone anytime soon?

This resonated with me in so many ways. There are just times you keep going until you just get heated and now have to take a mandatory break to recharge. And that’s just like a mobile phone on charge. Brilliant one there!
